stuck at pre-battle screen

Rome 2 loads up just fine but when i am at the pre-battle screen for a custom battle, prologue or campaign, i get sound but no video. it stays on the prebattle screen. my mouse responds and takes different shapes and i hear the prebattle advice. if i click around i can hear my units respond. but the darn prebattle screen never gors away! im at a loss. i havent found any forums withthis problem. help me please

has anyone else run into this problem. im dying here. this is happening on an older pc that i know meets specs. i restored rome 2 from a backup disc i made from steam (all legal). i dont wajt to reinstall. took a real long time the first time.
