Some of you may remmember the teaser trailer. Well here is the full version. it tells an epic story of a Roman named Appelius who challenged the Gauls. With original music, great voice acting, and epic battles, rome total war fans do not want to miss this!

And for you history nerds, you may notice some things resembling real history. I try to stick close to real events, but all names and details are fictional.

I know this is supposed to be episode 1, but chances of more episodes are looking slim. Mostly due to so many resources into making this and the upcoming Medieval 2:Total War, and rome becoming outdated. A sequal in a different era perhaps? :tooth:

Well its not bad... but if you intend to continue in this vein (as I suggest), I think it'd do well to read Caesar's Commentaries on the Gallic and Civil Wars (I've really been pimping this book lately).

It could have used a much stronger narrative, I thought the best moments were during things like the battle speech. Generally the reason we feel emotionally about epic movies is on the micro-level, with the characters. Thousands of men crashing into each other gets boring quite quickly. Doing things like identifying specific Centurions (even on the superficial level) would go a long way, as well as making the main character more important (such as showing him watching the battle and commenting).

Also the portrayal of the Roman military machine and battle tactics is a bit off, but like you are aware, that's a fantastical stylistic choice. The last thing is technical: you NEED at least a 30 fps framerate so the battle plays smoothly. You have alot of fast action, even 24 isn't going to cut it, and at some points, it looks like you are getting 10 or so FPS.

I'd also recommend you take a look at a trailer I did for Fourth Age: Total War when I was on the team:

Overall, good job, but if you have the capacity, I think you can make some very excellent, epic-quality machinima that has never been seen before! A recreation of Caesar's final battle with Pompeii would be awesome, I think (Commentaries on Civil War book III).

But of course, I am aware of everything you mentioned.

I couldn't do many of the things you mentioned do to technical difficulties. I did my best, and turned it into what I expected it to be. It isn't historicaly accurate, but it was my first attempt at a story driven RTW movie.

I was actually working on a recreation of Caesar and Pompeys final battle, but gave up do to some problems recording. (I was trying to use game cam, to keep the fps, but then the quality was pixelated) I may try to get back into that though and finish it...I got quite far. (played and recorded an entire battle...twice)

Even if I don't continue the story of Appellius, im looking forward to what M2TW has to offer. Perhaps instead of Imperator... a Conquistador or Conquerer from another period...
