Default Rome 2's Core problem, the sardine can

So what in the heck is up with how tightly packed the units are? You almost can't see any space at all between the models. And when they collide you can 't even see the combat animations which are supposed to be main spectacle of the game. Out of all the problems Rome has watching a Legion blob and smack into an enemy without proper spacing or any actual cohesion really ruins the game.

All the other stuff I feel can be fixed or overlooked, like the awful character system. The spacing issue is so fundamental to the battle system that it alone could make me play just to watch the spectacle.I can watch this video over and over and appreciate the roman military system, especially the shot at 41 seconds in where it shows the line rotation. Whereas watching the spectacle of the battles close in in Rome 2 just makes me rage quit the game.

it was how they fought in those times. any trained troops will fight in tight formations, shieldwalls back in those times in europe and surrounding areas.

“The only rule that ever made sense to me I learned from a history, not an economics, professor at Wharton. "Fear," he used to say, "fear is the most valuable commodity in the universe." That blew me away. "Turn on the TV," he'd say. "What are you seeing? People selling their products? No. People selling the fear of you having to live without their products." freakin' A, was he right. Fear of aging, fear of loneliness, fear of poverty, fear of failure. Fear is the most basic emotion we have. Fear is primal. Fear sells.” WWZ

Have you had your daily dose of fear yet? craziii

There is tight and then there's clown car tight. A man had to be able to at least take a step within a meter or so of his position. In the ancient world you can almost entirely attribute the success of envelopment to the compression of that precious space which is exemplified by Hannibal's success at Cannae

I highly suggest using a combat mod with unit spacing changes. There are a few out there and it really helps in my opinion.

Is there one you recommend? I am a little leary of using mods so soon after release, I usually give that a month or two. I hope this is something CA fixes, don't they want us to see the glory of their combat animations?
