Default [question] EditSF 1.0.7 - is this editor compatible with ROME II ???

    HI.

I download Beta patch 3 for rome II. So I start edit startpos.esf and saved the file, but saved file lost more than 250k of his size.

    Original Beta 3 startpos.esf have - 4 744 429 b.

    after save have - 4 463 253 b.

My question is why? Is the EditSF 1.0.7 is not compatible with ROME II ESF files?
Why the size of saved file have 250k less then before save? I change only a turn per year, nothing more. What we loose in saved file?

yes, it will modify it. whether or not it may cause a problem I have not been able to determine.

Seems to work in AFP modded startpos... but I wonder about save corruption that some users have reported. The save sizes aren't reassuring, following no discernible trend.

There are two reasons for the difference in size.
One, there are two different methods to encode ones and zeroes in numbers which saves uses half the space than other values.
Two, the "compresssed" part uses zip compression which can be performed with different algorithms without breaking compatability (think of the "compression level" setting in your zip program).

So files of different sizes can very well contain the same data. Whether they do, I can't guarantee of course; but I haven't heard reports that the files saved by EditSF don't work.

I find it easier to edit startpos with PFM. Best thing is it can be included in the mod.pack so it wont overwrite vanilla startpos.
