    Default Unit Recruitment Issue

I tried to search on this (both on google and here on the forums) but I can't seem to find anyone else who is having the issue of seeing units in a roster that only say "Faction Availability" without any type of structure/technology required to recruit them. There are a ton of instances of this (especially, for whatever reason, with the Carthaginians and Athenians). For instance, Athens has militia hoplites in some early assault ship but they're never recruitable. The Late Carthaginian hoplites are the same way. Go to the unit encyclopedia and see if there are requirements to recruit them.

I'm not sure if it's a bug, if just no one has really noticed it, or if I'm missing something here; but there are a lot of units that I simply cannot recruit, no matter the time frame.

    Any help is appreciated.

go to custom battles and right click the unit, encyclopedia will pop out telling you the faction and buildings you need to recruit that unit. it is as easy as that. I have never had trouble recruiting units once I know what the requirements are.

Yes, okay so go to a custom battle, select Carthage, and right click on the Late Carthaginian Hoplites. It will only say "Faction Availability" with no building or research requirements listed, making it impossible to recruit them in the campaign. These are not the only units which have this, I should make a list, but I don't have the time or ambition to do that right now. I do know that I've noticed it with both the Carthage and Athens campaigns thus far. Athens is incapable of producing Assault Dieres with Militia Hoplites (says the same thing, "Faction Availability"), and the unit is not even present in coastal or naval custom battles. I think there are quite a few units that are "in the game" that aren't actually able to be recruited.

The problem is you need research to change Carthaginian hoplites into Late Carthaginian hoplites, the building requirement is the same for both. Its the same mechanic as with Rome when you advance your tech and units change.

I didnt play with Carthage but Ive seen a dev post about it, so Im not 100% sure. Check the tech tree in the campaign when they unlock it will say they will change.

the encyclopedia lists everything you need. faction, tech, and building. I don't know what Op meant when he said he can't find the requirements. and if he really met the requirements and still can't recruit, he should report it on the official forums so CA will fix it in patch 4 or some later patch.

Read my posts again, and attempt to replicate my results. The encyclopedia does not have requirement entries for some units, it just says "Faction Availability". I don't know how to make it any clearer to you.
