Default Disappearing spears/pikes of phalanx when running?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xp2CgPjxxo

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JH_wDYno6MQ @8:15 pikes re-appear....

When i watch this video, i notice that pikes disappear everytime phalanx units run and the pikes/spears re-appear when you deploy... Why??? Where do those spears go when they run? I hope those spears wont disappear out of nowhere just like in rome 1... Please Fix it...

I hope they still carry pikes while running...

would be much better if Pikemen carried them by default, while swords would be enabled as currently pikes are.. and once they are activated, you would be not able to get back to pikes again... instead, we have a magic button that materializes and dematerializes pikes whenever you want.. (luckily at least not during combat...)

    Agree, just like cavalry dismounting...

If you dont want your phalanx to use their pikes and use swords instead, there should be a button for it... Just like cavalry leaving their horses...

Or maybe the same mechanics with rome 1...

I dont like the sight of pikes disappearing when men are running and appearing whenever i deploy them... It seems like magic!

Ah come on, they had them working with Empire, why does this game make so many steps back?

Maybe having swords as secondary weapon....

I dont like phalanx becoming swordsmen when running...

I want the phalanx mechanic just like rome 1...

Pikes are their primary weapon so it shouldnt disappear when they are running....

whole concept around Pikemen was just bad since ETW, and CA's improvements just went the wrong direction instead of making them realistic, thus plausible... i dont get that hatred towards realism, when its obvious more realistic approach would be the the best here...

Just make those pikes permanent, with ability to drop them in case of emergency (pike phalanx compromised), or when player decides to.. Simple,Realistic and Effective...

Well, the best solution would be not to allow pikemen to run at all. I mean, honestly, running in battle is a quite weird idea to begin with in almost all situations. Except perhaps for the last 10 meters to the enemy, hoping that he breaks because of your intimitating sight - but if not, then ... you would probably prefer to stop over being engaged by 3 opponents simultaneously, who have remained stationary and well ordered. Unfortunately, the loss of cohesion and the results of it are not part of the game.

Modding-wise, you can forbid units to run. However, then they will even walk when they rout. So, hear my plea, CA: PLEASE GIVE US SEPERATE RUNNING AND ROUTING SPEEDS (or allow units that are forbidden to run to run when routed).

That would be perfect, at least for making a mod, I understand if no running for units is not appreciated by the big audience.
Too bad that they walk when routing.
How about charging? Can units still charge the last meters if you disable running?

Even when they aren't in phalanx mode they act like infantry. It's a real immersion breaker when they go from swordsmen to phalanxmen with the sarissas they pulled out of their @$$.

Phalanx pikemen of the time technically did carry their sarissae in two pieces, and put the two together before battle. That said, the two segments totaled six meters in length, so they were pretty big anyhow...

pikes in rome 1 was greet. they actually work. well, formations actually work in rome 1. I wish rome 2 pikes works the same way.

realism does suck most of the times compare to gameplay.

“The only rule that ever made sense to me I learned from a history, not an economics, professor at Wharton. "Fear," he used to say, "fear is the most valuable commodity in the universe." That blew me away. "Turn on the TV," he'd say. "What are you seeing? People selling their products? No. People selling the fear of you having to live without their products." freakin' A, was he right. Fear of aging, fear of loneliness, fear of poverty, fear of failure. Fear is the most basic emotion we have. Fear is primal. Fear sells.” WWZ

Why is running with a pike in one hand and magically dropping and pulling them out of their ass "great" in RTW1 but running with sword and shield and pulling them out of their ass only when switching to a pike formation bad in RTW2?

It's essentially the same and it makes at least more sense that phalangites act as normal infantry when used in this mobile fashion than running around with pikes.

I would also prefer the "discard" button so you can convert one shot your phalanx into a lighter sword infantry if you like but have to stick to pikes otherwise. Not sure if individual soldiers in the front line might dynamically switch to swords though.
"Sebaceans once had a god called Djancaz-Bru. Six worlds prayed to her. They built her temples, conquered planets. And yet one day she rose up and destroyed all six worlds. And when the last warrior was dying, he said, 'We gave you everything, why did you destroy us?' And she looked down upon him and she whispered, 'Because I can.' "

Prefer them to still carry their pikes/spears while running, not disappearing out of nowhere...

Didn't have any problem with the pikes so far.

The only way to make it realistic is to have pikemen run with pikes but when they switch to swords they drop their pikes, but CA has to make it so they can pick the pikes up again unless the pikes got kicked around, lost, or stepped on and broken in half. You should be forced to click on little pike models on the ground and pick them up one by one. Also between battles there should be men you have to send into the forest to chop down trees to get replacement pikes. WHERE DO ALL THE PIKES COME FROM???

I wanted an axemen vs trees battle for wood, instead creative assembly basically robbed me blind forcing me to buy their game with the Will and Craig brainwashing. I feel like a victim . I had $100 in the bank which I needed to pay my rent and buy groceries, but I could not help clicking the button on Steam that told me to buy Rome 2, so I could taste a little bit of happiness.

I was so mad yesterday about Rome 2 that I hit my child really hard across the face, and my wife took her and left me.

CA, all you had to do was make the game the way I wanted it, instead you ruined my life.

PS. CA: I will probably still buy the DLCs because you're forcing me to, but don't expect me to not make threads saying I am very unhappy about it
