Default Naval battle! Can you win against all odd?

I personally love all kind of naval battle and games that focus on naval battle so I always try to fight any naval battle in Rome 2 by myself(not those 20 vs 1 of course). This topic is where I hope that I can find people who also love naval battle where you can fight without worry that the enemies have bigger number.

This is currently my biggest and most successful naval battle. It reminded me the battle of Salamis. Against all odds my navies crush the enemies waves after waves of them charge toward my small fleet, my balista ship fire until I run out of ammo my helot throw javelins till they have none left and get into a ramming battle where I finally crush my enemies

The enemies put up a good fight with 3 times they successful boarded my ships. One of my ship routed but the rest was fine my ramming tactic worked and all of them just sunk into the deep blue under the hand of Poseidon. They must become Kraken's food by now, poor traitors

Sadly the battle is too bloody and quick pace, Ramming also need too much control over every single ship(after ram something they just sit back) so I can't have time for recording damn CA this is way too much micro ... but honestly it was more fun than land battle for me lol

Thanks, I am in deep right now as I am at war with Carthage and this civil war broke out right under my nose when my land army still stuck in Italy fought off the Nova Carthago and Lybia. Lucky that I can rise 1 stack Mercenary and have my navies sit around Athens to defend my base from Lybia they proved that I didn't make a wrong move to invested in navies

Haha, very nice, just make sure you disband your mercenaries after the war so that their upkeep doesn't cost you an arm and a leg.

'Dem Ballista ships are one-shot-kill on most ships in current Vanilla, especially transports - it looks like 'dem did most of the killing... Classic CA release - no miss OP artillery and ship just sinks with a single hit.

Not knocking - while the numbers are extremely in enemy favor, they are certain cannon fodder in this line up...

lol did you really play naval battle?I dont know where did you get the one shot kill from but it took my navies at least 3 shot for each transport ship. And that's if you actually hit them. Normally you will miss 2,3 shot per ship as they moving not standing. The catapult will miss more 4-5 shot miss if you shot from far.

And even if they are cannon fodder(which clearly they aren't the qualities of civil war troops is quite good) if you look at my troops you can see that once they success at boarding my ships all of those ships will lost, only the admiral actually have some hoplite but they are just Spartan hoplite while enemies having Royal Spartan and Cretan Archer with them.

btw you can try but I really doubt that you can win a similar one like me in custom battle, and you know the balista and catapult have limit ammo they can't sink almost 7000 enemies by themselves

I love the naval battles, watching my "barbarians" sail with theyr ships against the odds And they look absolutelly amazing.

But they need balancing. Infantry transport ships seem better than the naval units, and stuff like incendiary missile thrower troops are ridiculously effective, dem spears... Alongside other things, they need to re-work that stuff at some point...

The defensive naval AI is stupid ATM, they sit there while your artillery ships sink 'em. On the offensive though they are much better.

    No they aren't
They only sit back if you at least have about 80-90% their force that make both side about equal, but once they are out number you about 2 to 1 or more they will go attack and board you at full force even when they at defend.

Please play more before start to post any useless comment. I had over 300 hours in game so I won't post a battle that I won by beaten a stupid AI that sit there and let me sink them all. Honestly I know most of you only auto resolved naval battle but have a little respect and think before posting pls

Oh grow up mate, no need to boast about your 300+ hours or whatever makes you feel special. Now, the AI should not sit back at all regardless of force ratio especially if you have artillery ships, which unfortunately they do on the defensive. I've tested this throughout every single naval battle in my Roman campaign against Carthage. They form a line, then get sunk by artillery ships. And that's all they ever do. This needs to be fixed. In land battles even if they are on the defensive and you outmatch, if they see your artillery, they will launch a full attack because they know they'll be screwed if they don't.

Unfortunately Naval AI is still bugged.

the naval battles are really fun for me personally, I find that sometimes the AI seems to bug out and just create a line of ships and send one at a time but yeh that probably down to balance of power

    http://cloud-3.steampowered.com/ugc/...38A5163B2F99D/

but in that battle the entire seleucid fleet and its reinforcements piled on me ha, I was quite outnumbered

just managed to win it, had to sacrifice my spartan hoplites in the assault ships to pin down some of their vessels for my massed artillery vessels ha

I found ballista ships to be extremely useful, at best when protected by warships manned with full-strenght melee units to protect them from boarding battles. Especially against transport navies, ballistas with regular shot can perfectly punish the enemies´ weaknesses, which are slowness and low hull strenght by sinking most/all transports before they get to play to their strenght, which is boarding.

I dont know where you get your miss percentages from, but my ballistas seem to have 80% + accuracy on moving enemy ships with regular shot and sink them in about three hits. Only actual warships can take some more, but I only ever fought those in custom battles.

yes, I like to have a line of naval artillery, missile ships in between to shower anyone that tries to get close to them

then the hoplite ships for ramming and pinning down targets etc

Or maybe you always encounter that bug while people like me not(I did but it not happen everytime). I am pretty sure many people here can confirm that Naval battle AI not always sit back like you just said.

Honestly if they just form a line like you just said I won't have enough rock to sent all of them to the deep sea, and even if that happen like you said why should I suffered casualties up to the point that I have one ship routed and 2 ships lost about 1/2 troops?

Use your brain and think about it before actually say anything more since I only saw useless things in your posts so far, you are the one need to grow up. I got the feeling that you are one of those whiners around here who never play more than 100 hours in game but whine about everything that you saw.
