Default Bummer man..Where is Publius Cornelius Scipio. Gaius Flaminius, Varo, Paulus etc ?

Has anybody recruited any of the historic Roman leaders from either the first or second Punic wars?

I was hoping whenever the time period came up the leaders that were available to recrtuit would be historical leaders from that time period. So far i haven't been able to recruit any of them. Second Punic War time period rolls around yet where is Publius Cornelous Scipio (Elder or younger), Varro, Gaius Semmpronioous Logus, Fabius Maximus, Lucius Aemelius Paullus, Gaius Flamminius, Claudius Marcellus and others? I assumed this time around they would make sure when the time came that the real leaders from that era could be recruited. Why spend time naming all the generic names for leaders when they could have added the real one?

Has anybody found a way to sift through the leaders and find the historicly accurate one?

Thing is that in most case the war with Carthage is already over when you reach the correct time frame for the second punic war for example.

I've had Gaius Marius as Rome (not punic wars, but it's the only notable name I've seen as Rome thus far), not sure if that's just random though.

Well I have recruited Gaius Marius, Julius Caesear, Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa and Gnaeus Pompey in one single campaing.
None of them had any noteworthy traits, aside of Gaius Marius, who was "a born leader".

At least they should've made them recruitable despite whatever happens with the enemy factions. I was looking forward to having Paullus in attacking Macedonia.

No i usualy follow the hisoric path. I conquer Sicily Corsico and Sardina. Later i can fight Carthage and their holdings and Allies in Spain. But the other player mentioned having Caesar and Pompey so maybe i'll keep trying to hire and fire generals and see if i can find my guys. Either way im not playing much now until another several patches come out. By the time the game can pose any challenge at all and is more functional in terms of campaign and battle AI, especialy Siege i don't want to get tired of the game before then.

While I like everything historically accurate such as weapons, armour, attitude, etc, I really don`t have a problem with actual historical figures not being there. The way I see it, history is not written until it comes to pass, so if you start from the point the game starts at, new Generals could`ve been born under different names. It`s up to fate and YOu whether they become a Julius Caesar or Scipio Africanus.

I suppose it`s possible that a historical name one may appear randomly, but I really like it this way. But that`s just me.

I never quite understand why people seem to think that history MUST be exactly the same as our real history was. If you think about it, history for Rome could`ve branched off in a dozen different directions. One of them is just being wiped out by Carthage or Boudicca actually kicking out the Romans!

I currently have Lucius Cornelius Sulla as one of my generals.

Some of us IMHO, just love having historical characters around even if everything does not go entirely historical for immersion. Just like taking a picture with this guy from history with his army or something like that. It's like that it's just not right without the general because they go together. Like polybian legion comes short without Scipio Africanus or Aemilius Paullus. The Gallic Legions without Caesar etc..

You are wrong in your assumptions - TW is not about recreating history but making your own history. It's one of the game's mottos

Does making my own history with historical characters not count as making one's own history?

This is actually one of the things that always bothered me about Total war games, which they seemingly fixed in Napoleon (obviously because the time frame is small) and which they could have fixed in Shogun 2. I really wish that in Shogun 2 the generals had specific historical traits.

No. People selling the fear of you having to live without their products." freakin' A, was he right. Fear of aging, fear of loneliness, fear of poverty, fear of failure. Fear is the most basic emotion we have. Fear is primal. Fear sells.” WWZ
