    Default Computer upgradin' time

Well, it's about time to get a computer upgrade. I'm still on socket A and I'm thinking of moving into socket 939, so I'll need a new motherboard. I'm also still on AGP so I'll need to upgrade to PCI -E. My current computer:

    Athlon XP 2600+ Barton
    512 MB RAM
    Radeon 9600 Pro 256mb
Not quite sure about Mobo. It's a gigabyte socket A with AGP. That should thin it down a bit! :tooth:

Anyway. I spied a package at a nearby computer store that had a Athlon 64 3500+ with an Asus A8V-MX Micro ATX, and a similar one with a Foxconn NF4K8MC - ERS Motherboard. They were $245 NZ$, which is about 150ish US$. How good are these motherboards?

Does anyone have any motherboard suggestions? Keep in mind I'm not going to be overclocking at all and am looking at around the low - mid range.

I'm also planning on getting a 6600/GT but I'm open for suggestions. I'm going to add another 512MB of RAM as well.

    Any ideas?

    Hrmm. Probably about 500 - 600 NZ$ which is roughly 320 - 400 US$.

Socket 939 is outdated, 6600GT is also out dated. You should check the PC Hardware Guide sticked in this forum for a list of good parts.

I'd recommend saving up a bit more before you upgrade. In terms of cost you are basically constructing a new machine.

Hrmm. I may go AM2. I'll look around to see how long AM2 will live - it may be replaced by AM3 soon. I'm also thinking of scrapping the 6600 and getting a 7600. Which is why I came herer for advice.
