Imagine if we had this many regions on the campaign map, the campaign would be truly epic. Combine that with 40k+ soldiers per battle and you've got the game of the year award handed to you by Caesar himself (yes, he'd resurrect just to hand out an award).

Yep, while the campaign map is truly the biggest in TW history, the large region sizes and consolidated buildings (everything within the cities) map the campaign map feel empty and lifeless. I would love to see more regions in a province and strategic buildings spread out within the region.

I wonder if modders will be able to create more regions. There are a few mods for S2TW that broke regions into smaller ones so it may also be possible in TWR2.

It should definitely be possible, but the huge settlements may be problematic unless we can scale them down a bit in order to fit all the extra regions.

Good point, that is a wild card rightnow . I don't know if those massive cities are possible to downsize or not. I assume army movement ranges can be changed? In addition to a 2 or 4turn/year that map would be amazing.

Epic? Yes. Would I ever finish a campaign? Nope. I like having closure for my campaigns and I like trying out most of the factions. It could be cool though

The pacing would definitely be different. This would probably be a good setup for a proper overhaul mod for people that want to have a bigger scale compared to the vanilla version. It's not meant for everybody.

I was expecting multiple cities in a region, instead though we got multiple regions in a province. Which is fine I guess but not really what I thought it would be. Imagine there being a couple cities in a region which you can tax and recruit and it would really add to strategy in the game.

Seems like it would be even more of a tedious siegefest.
Aelfwine, then, spoke out and valiantly declared: 'Let us call to mind those declarations we often uttered over mead, when from our seat we heroes in hall would put up pledges about tough fighting; now it can be proved who is brave. I am willing to make my lineage known to all, that I was from a substantial family in Mercia. My grandfather was called Ealhelm, a wise nobleman blessed with worldly wealth. The thanes among that people shall not reproach me for my wanting to get out of this army, to make my way home, now that my lord leader is lying hacked down in battle. To me that is the greatest grief: he was both my kinsman and my lord." Then he moved forward and turned his attention to revenge, so that with his spear he struck a seaman among the army so that he lay dead among the ground, destroyed by his weapon. Then he exhorted his comrades, his friends and companions, that they should advance.

I think there is already a mod that changes settlement battles to open battles. Combined a map like in the OP it would not be a siegefest at all especially if there was still just one walled city/province.

Of course with this amount of regions the province system would make more sense (where only historically important cities have walls). The rest of the cities could have small garrisons to make the majority of the "sieges" quicker to go through.

Just for you greve, I will have a go. I don't think the map needs extending its awesome and large enough as it is, it just feels lifeless due to the overall state of the game, and adding regions isn't gonna fix it but hey if someone is bothered to do it then by all means go ahead

Thanks for the feedback, and yes I agree that the game in its current state is a bit lifeless compared to the other total war titles. Hopefully CA will release more content patches and stuff like that to fill out the current void. Once we have a good foundation to build upon, this sort of mod will take that to the next level. The map is definitely very large, it's just that it's not very region dense which makes it a bit too easy to chew up large chunks of land in a short time span.

Yep I would be ok with the rate of chewing if there was more to chew

I think more provinces are always great. Gives you a sense of progression as you expand . I hated how in Empire and Napoleon some countries were only one province in size. The siege issue does become a problem, though. Perhaps many of the smaller cities without walls could force land battles between the garrison and attackers.

More province isnt always better. Remember Totalwar basically has no mechanics to hold a player back once they empire has grown past critical mass, usually reaching mid-game (Realm Divide and Civil War were the most recent attempts - thats why many TW vets found early game the most exciting period). With this many provinces your campaign is just a tiring tedious never ending siegefest. ... not a good thing I assure you :\

I would support more regions but not that many. It would simply take far to long for a turn based game. It reminds me of the Hearts of Iron map and even in that game taking those small provinces is a pain.
