Default Long Game turns ? The Solution is :

    Hi all !

I just came up for an idea for the CA/TW team, to make the time between turns ("The Waiting") more enjoyable, they could (should) give us some sort of minigame.
Not sure if its moddable but an update by the TW team (SEGA yeah) could do it more easy i guess...

Here I just added the gambling (dice) from Witcher to give you an idea what I mean.
The minigame could well be something else, maybe even some mini politics game that would add some flavor into the political part of Rome 2. It should be fun so that the waiting will be fun too
So what do you guys think ?

Did I get you right? You see that your system is working and struggeling with the ammount of data that it has to process... and your solution is to give it even more to work on?

You do have a point but it is possible to have a subprogram running (ie the minigame), it would use different resources mainly or run from some RAM or some other CPU core even.
And still yes it would use some resources, I would give it a 3% power (well the resources) scale and 97% to "The Waiting" routine.

However whatever you do, the minigames resources are minimal compared to those needed by "The Waiting" and TW will never be able to cut them down to some indurable timescale. We will always have to wait for the machine to finish its turns. Sure its handy to grab a smoke in between, take the dog out, make the dishes etc. Actually I would prefer to do nothing else but play for a fixed time, no breaks. Thus I would rather stick to the minigame idea. It would be more fun and more immersive if they could create some historical, fun minigame.

IF it (the minigame) was here already, no one would force you to play it, they can make it an option (Click OFF to save resources) which doom you to the inevitable waiting or play the minigame till the inevitable waiting is over.

Indeed, it is a staple of software development to sacrifice computing throughput in favor of UI response time/interactivity. After all, it is the perception of the user that matters and not the actual computational speed. Something that takes 5 min but allows continuous user interactivity and UI response during that time will overall have better user satisfaction than if it took 3 min but appears "frozen" to the user during that time.

I want ca to shorten the mid to late game end turns to under 20 secs. that is all. patch notes was talking about early game times, which was never a problem to begin with. it was 20 to 30 secs in the beginning. then it gets to be 2mins

    all gimmicks unnecessary.

The turns end pretty fast for me, as it takes 5-20 secs for me.

I don't think I'd have time to play any minigames xD

Sending a scout into the world to meet new factions gives me even more waiting time. A minigame would suit me fine. It should reflect back to the maingame though (ie. if you dice you will either loose or win "game money"). Some politics game (quiz like ?) would be handy too.

a game of political manoeuvring would be awesome. instead of dreading clicking the button you might start enjoying the waiting time

I usually read a book between turns. With NTW, I play in Windows mod, so I can do something else between turns, but for Rome II, Windows mod crashes the game in battles...

I made a thread similar to this; like being able to move the camera/check your troop positions/characters/provincial setup while the game processes the AI turns. This was prior to patch 2 - which was about 3 minutes end turn time even at the very beginning.

Now it's under a minute each turn, until around turn 100+

CA impressed me that they could actually optimise it! But if they have optimised it that well so far they just need to find a way to optimise it late game as well. That's still better IMO then player control / minigames.

I'd rather it opens up some simple PDF file you can read some free e-books while you're waiting. I mean it's faster than alt-tabbing to FoxItReader, and it's brief enough that you don't feel like you're switching tempo between two different games.

In Civ 5, even on marathon mode while you're turtling it doesn't feel like you're waiting as you're constantly checking things; advisors, cities, troop positions, workers, tile improvements, diplomacy, trade, etc etc.

Actually, quite frankly I prefer the Civ 5 model as player control is always there. Besides most of the time during my turns is spent checking my provinces/troops/tech/strategic layout anyways, and very little is spent moving my armies/agents around (which I do last). So if player control is enabled during AI turns, even if it'll take longer ironically it'll actually save me more time.
