so if i buy Intel Core I5-3570 from intel Core I3-3220

    even with a AMD Radeon HD 7770 1gig 128bit DDR5

i can play with good frames now?

intel Core I3-3220 + AMD Radeon HD 7770 1gig 128bit DDR5 is my rig now.

I5 is what gamers go for. I3 is just there for everyday PC use, but games are very demanding. The problem with TWR2 is it fails to make better use of the multicore CPU as well as the GPU. This isn't unique to CA either.

So in general the best CPU for TWR2 will be the fastest CPU. However I7's although the fastest offer only marginal gain over an I5 for a lot bigger bucks.

If you like PC Gaming, then run, don't walk and get an I5. Assuming you got a 1155 socket Mobo, then it is simply a matter of replacing the I3 with a 1155 pin I5 which are still available new. The new standard is 1150 socket Mobo and a that with a 1150 pin I5 would be better, but it means more bucks.

so better get CPU rather than GPU?

    regarding this ^

i want to upgrade to AMD Radeon Powercolor HD 7950 3G and Intel Core I5-3570

so if my budget goes only to one of these

    CPU OR GPU?

First the CPU, that's what is most likely to offer the performance gain for TWR2.

It may not be worth bothering with a hot card like the 7950 unless you got a good psu. The 7770 is nice sedate card that won't go heavy on your system.

Spend $10 more and get the i5-3570k instead, so you can atleast overclock it in the future.

Also, HD 7870 would be good, rome 2 isn't taking advantage at all of the 7950 I have, much less the 3gigs of vram.

so i5-3570k, hd 7870(or nvidia equivalent), and 8gigs of ram would be a nice little system.

In that Case, would a computer with 2 i5 or i7 CPUs, be better then 1 CPU?

No you can't have dual i series processors. Only Xeon(server) processors can be ran in multiples. I imagine the lga 2011 xeons doing pretty well with rome 2, but buying that kind of hardware just for this game is insane.

i7-875k used is $175ish on ebay, I'm not familiar with this gen as I skipped it and went sandybridge. Apparently it can get 3.5ghz easily. I wouldn't invest too much in it. If you have a really nice motherboard and sufficient cpu cooling, might be worth it.

I can play battles okay at Very High, but have to lower unit detail to High to get 25 fps when battles clash. Ultra is an option but whenever armies clash the fps goes down to 15 +/-.

I'm thinking of upgrading. But hell, maybe its not my system.
What speed is the i5 at? Have you updated to patch 3 and to the beta AMD drivers?

Its all about budget, but regarding your cpu, its 3 years old so i dont think you will find a new one to fit yor socket in stores. Maybe a used one on from for example ebay. But regarding your question, there is always a stronger cpu.
On the other hand, i would recommend an haswell/ivybridge i5 and a new mb. That would make your system run like a charm.

That what I thought so. All new CPUs are for 1155 MBs. Can you recommend an i5? From what I see they run at 3.5@.

    Like this one?

I would recommend that one. Im currently using it and i am more then happy with the performance. Along with my 2 geforce 670 i max out every game, exept rome 2 :p
For the record, it runs 3.8 ghz in turbo mode and is easy to overclock, jusy make sure to use a good cpu cooler.

the ivy E and previous enthusiast line disagree with you, with their dual socket mobos. and no it doesn't get better because you have 2 cpus.

TW wants high clocks, high IPC, and don't use that much of the other threads, this game uses them better anyway

Just because the socket may support dual cpus, does not mean the cpu will support another cpu. The I series is incapable of supporting multiple cpus, you must get a LGA 2011 Xeon.

cheapest overclockable quad core is what you want with a decent aftermarket cooler and ideally a gpu nowadays with 3gb vram so yes to a 7950.

poor performance if affecting us all though. the engine is badly optimised and has been for some time...

(am running a 580 plus 4ghz i7 @1920x1200 and running highs/very highs plus forced fxaa/sweetx and no noticeable lag).((although cant tell if sweetfx is working 100 percent)).

The current crop of I5 and I7 benchmark at twice the speed of the older versions from a few years ago, whether translates into much real additional performance I don't know. I'd hardly think it worth upgrading the CPU and Mobo just for that.

Might be worth trying the 4 or 4.1 shader model in the advanced graphics options. In theory shader model 5 eats at performance, where as the earlier shader model would still give most of the detail.
