Understanding faction colour tables

In the faction colour table there are 3 primary, 2 secondary and 2 tertiary colour slots. Which of these affects which part of model? So shield, tunics, accessories etc. Oh and where would I find the colour table for what number is assigned to each colour?

i guess its RGB. just google "rgb colour table" for the codes!
primary is 2/3 of the uniform colour, secondary and tertiary are for the patterns and the left 1/3 of the uniform parts.
