Trying to edit unit stats
Hello. I currently have a mod that increases the matchlock's range to 150, and I'm trying to edit the heavy gunners so they have the same 150 range.
I've read over the unit editing tutorial, but it seems to assume I have more knowledge than I do. I found the stats I wanted to change, saved the file... but nothing happened. It reset itself. I need to save it as a mod or something, which I have no idea how to do.
Then I saw this thread:
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...of-Bow-Samurai
which seemed a lifesaver. However, I have only the data.pak, no patch of any sort. Also, when I click any of the tables, I get an unhandled exception error. I'm using the exact PFM that I got from that thread. Another PFM, the most current (rome 2 compatible) one, won't allow me to edit it from the PFM, only hex editing, which gives me the old problem.
Can anyone give me some advice here, perhaps a guide that doesn't assume I know anything about creating a mymod.pak? Thank you.

Re: Trying to edit unit stats
Try this PFM (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...Features-added). Then edit the projectiles_table, the thing you're looking to edit is shogun_heavygunner. Just look in the columns to the right until you see one labeled "effective_range" and change that to your desired range.
Hopefully the mod you have that increases the matchlock's range will also have the heavy gunners projectile in there too, if not you could always edit it in the data.pack, but CA packs are read only by default in PFM. All you need to do to change this is look under the options at the top of PFM and uncheck that option.
If you want to make your own .pack file with PFM all you need to do is right click on the projectiles table and extract it, then make a new .pack by clicking on "file" then "new". Lastly all you need to do is right click in the left pane and click "add", then "directory", and navigate to where you extracted the projectiles table to.
I'm no expert, but if PFM won't work after installing this one try making sure you have the old one uninstalled first.

Ah. I had the PFM set to rome 2, which is why it wouldn't show the pack files in the columns I wanted. How would I set the new .pack file to work with the manager, like the mods downloaded from the workshop, or alternately, ensure that my .pack is loaded rather than the main data.pack?

as long as it's in the data folder it should work just fine
