Default Modding - Is it really going to be possible?

I keep reading posts by people saying "Wait for the mods!" or "Wait until an overhaul mod like Roma Surrectum or EB!" My understanding, from statements Jack Lusted made to the Empire/Napolean community, is that modding tools for the new engine are problematic at best. Then on July 5, Mike Simpson told Eurogamer:

"What they (fans) actually want is a toolset and capabilities which are better than what we actually have ourselves. They don't realise quite what a horrendous and manual process putting together some of these systems is!

As we develop our own tools it becomes easier for us to support modders, so we're intending to do that.

    ***

Whether those map editing tools will be included in the Rome 2 box - "we haven't specifically said that yet", Simpson said. "But I'd be surprised if that wasn't the case."

I can't find that CA released any modding tools with the game. Is there a way to edit the map? What can we mod besides unit sizes and stats?

Seriously, I'm really looking for some hope here ...

shogun2 is at least as modable as medieval 2, without many hardcoded limits of medieval 2 even
don't let the people without a clue tell you otherwise, it's the most modable total war to date
now, if they release the same tools for rome 2 than everything is fine, if not we are srewed
seeing how they DID release them for shogun i guess there is much hope, but probably not before the expansion and every DLC is out
Check out my AOR and balancing Mod for Third Age Total War

As a matter of fact you couldn't mod Shogun 2 as much as Medieval 2. The script was limited to unit stats and graphics, some tweaks to combat and so on. In M2 apart from this you could also change the map. And that was really helpful.
So finally I bought Total War: Rome 2. Regarding I payed 7.5$ for it, it's not a bad game at all!

    Shogun 2s map is editable.

You mean it's possible to move castles, change province borders, add new regions fix geography and on? If it's so, I going back to my EMPIRE project as it should be technically the same!

Yes. There's a thread somewhere in the Shogun 2 workshop forum where someone worked out how to make entirely new maps, including custom land shape, region borders, cities, etc. The downside was that I was incredibly difficult to do to the point where the guy who worked out how to do it wouldn't make a tutorial because it would take to long. He managed to work it out by himself though so you should be able to was well with some dedication.

please don't say things if you didn't research it... Templar_knight (oh god i hope i'm not mispelling his name or something) made a map of the UK on Shogun 2, you can change the map. Shogun 2 is more moddable than Medieval 2 since it doesnt have a lot of the limits that Medieval had, you just need the tools and apparently its a little harder to mod.

You can't do for Empire but doable for Shogun 2 since it need official tool (unless someone in the community can create something like the Assembly Kit for ETW and NTW).

    Here's something for Shogun 2.

The first part of your statement was actually said shortly before the Assembly Kit came out. When the Assembly Kit came out, we realized that we can actually do alot of things with Shogun 2. The problem being there weren't enough people left to enjoy the mods people made at the time.

As long as we see the Assembly Kit Rome version come out in a timely manner, we will see overhaul mods or at least map mods. And our discovery of the console makes me think that we can write scripts for the game again, as long as we figure out what commands to use.

That's the key, you can't have a scenario without a map. They're protecting potential sales of scenario DLC's here. Not that I can blame them for protecting profits.
Proculus: Divine Caesar, PLEASE! What have I done? Why am I here?
    Caligula: Treason!
Proculus: Treason? I have always been loyal to you!
Caligula: [laughs insanely] That IS your treason! You're an honest man, Proculus, which means a bad Roman! Therefore, you are a traitor! Logical, hmm? Ha, ha, ha!

SpartanWarrior made actually improvements with the Shogun 2 map. Dividing provinces in 2 parts, creating new castles etc. but that was more training for rome 2 than actuall Shogun 2 modding. The problem with Shogun 2 is the limited scenario. The Rome 2 era is just more flexible. Just look how man mods are allready out only 2 weeks after the release. We had to wait months to see that many new units in Shogun 2 and they to be honest weren't really new at all.

Proud to be a real Prussian.

Why was Rome (I) so popular? Because it was very--easily--modable. And it still is! Now, if Rome2TW isn't, despite the fact that it is so hot now [because it's new], I have my doubts if it will last so long in the scene as Rome(I) did and still does. Hawooh.
