    Default Parthia's Starting units...

The units you get at the start of the game often give you a good feel for the faction in battle but Parthia's starting units are a bit odd, if someone say Parthia the first thing that comes to you head is the Horse Archers however in game its a bit different:

You get Horse Skirmishers, 6 of them, they are not bad support unit used in a limited numbers but seeing how the Steppe tribesmen start off with Horse arches which out range them (and they are about equal in melee) and seeing how during a siege battle they would not have the same range as dismounted Horse Archers it just REALLY strange that they give 6 to you even though Parthia Horse Archers are one of the starting units you can buy. Is there any reason for this? It a bit like giving Rome no hastati to start with and only velites...

Yeah, they're pretty awful. I guess they wanted to make the start more challenging. Still, they're not bad vs the early opponents.

I guess because the early garrison unit of the surrounding settlements are made of low level melee units (mobs etc) so giving horse archer units from the start will give huge advantage to Parthia early on. Even then in My Parthian campaign I started off declaring war on Parthava which we joined by all Seleucid satraps. No challenge for me at all to take the settlement one by one with no or minimal loss to my armies after I added even 2 horse archers to my armies.

I don't know, I didn't fare to well wuth horse archers. I thought they be really great but the kill rate wasn't to high for me. cataphracts were more to my liking. of course this was on day one settings and I didn't mod it.

I found Parthia on Legendary to be a pointless attempt at using worthless skirmisher cav that barely function within the engine. It was awful.

Ah nice to see some replies, its a very odd thing and seeing how then game is unfinished (I like it but it needed 6 more months) I think think someone pressed the wrong button somewhere for this faction, like what they did for the African factions...

The problem is Horse skirmishers are not bad at shooting up infantry, they are really bad when comes to Steppe tribes to the north when they do large horse archer armies as they are out ranged and are roughly the same in melee. I dont think its unbalanced, just really odd...
