I started my first game as a roman faction... what units in the stacks have been most effective for you so far?

1 stack, where're 70% are hastati and rest are skirmishers > piece of cake
or another choice is 100% hastati/principes stack > you will win also because AI is stupid.

If you look campaign advise: I recommend go to North and take North-Italy area (Kill ectru faction and other barbarians too) Then it is easy to choose, do you want go to north, East or south? I have took some areas in north and soon Massalia, took Illyrian and West-greece area. Soon I will start my invasion to Africa and kicking Carthage and Libyan factions out.

my preference is to have hastati and javelin for the initial conquest, i.e. capturing the 2 provinces fully and to boot sardinia, with those 3 provinces I just lay back and research the hell out till I get at least 3-4 researches done on the economic, philosophy and building trees, than I move to make legions. after that its killing time
