    Default To all RS2 fans:

I am sorry if you have posted a problem or concern, or asked a question about Patch 2.6 and have received no response. I read the related threads faithfully, but I have an awful time with this site trying to post responses. When I have the most time to work on this, this site is just turtle slow, with some things just timing out and giving me a server error. And when I have little time or energy...which is late at night...the site seems to behave more rationally.

So I just want to assure people that I am writing down all possible errors or flaws and fixing them, and at some point will re-release 2.6..probably as 2.7. But it will be just 2.6 with a number of fixes in it. Please feel free to PM me if you are having pressing issues, or just want an answer.

The other thing I wanted to ask concerns the future of RS2. I have had a number of requests or questions about whether RS2 would or could be ported to Rome2, and I am having a look at the game thanks to a friend who gifted me with it. I am impressed with some parts of Rome2, but at the same time, wonder whether in its present state, it can even handle the basic 'thematic concepts' of RS2. Economics and recruitment seem to have been 'dumbed down' a bit, in the sense of what units Rome, in particular, could field at any one given time. I guess I'll just have to investigate and keep tabs on what can be done to open up Rome2 to modding.
I guess one of my major concerns is that the 'signature' Roman Legions of RS2 don't seem feasible in Rome2 at present, which doesn't appeal to me much.

In the mean time, Rome2 has given me a lot of ideas. In fact, I have been working on a number of changes I want to incorporate into RS2 at some point, but I wonder if RS2 has reached its pinnacle, and there just isn't enough interest in it any more. So I'm looking for a bit of input as to whether there is enough interest to continue developing RS2...or should we just pack it in and be proud of our success without trying to beat life into a dead horse?

You have nothing to apologize for, in my opinion. I have liked what I've seen in ver 2.6. And you are not being paid for any of this. We are merely the benefactors of your labors. All I can offer is many thanks (and perhaps a beer if I ran into you in person). As for the slowness of this site, I blame that on all of the people not happy with Rome II. Therefore I blame SEGA. :-)

As to your second statement. I have no interest in purchasing Rome II, so I hope you do continue to work on RS II, or perhaps move to the M2TW engine. But Rome II, no. Just seeing what has been done makes me think it is not conducive to easily modding some of the inherent problems (like lack of formations, no family tree...just off of the top of my head). Even if you stay on RTW I will continue to follow RS II even if you decide to call it a day and only do bug fixes. As it stands there is enough here for me to continue to play it for years to come.

Hey,dvk, thanks for the input. I will always choose RSII over R2 anytime. Be assured RSII is not a dead horse. RSII along with EB are the coolest mods for RTW for sure. I would definetely like to see new stuff for RSII. Right now I would just be glad to have a fixed 2.6 version. Im a 100% sure there is a lot of people who would agree with me.

Thank you for this great mod. I'm enjoying every minute of it. Please continue developing it. Rome 2 is too messed up and it will take a long time to fix it, if it is even possible.

I just can say thank you, too. Would like to see newer versions of RS2 and fresh ideas are always nice. I for sure prefer your mod to rome 2 (actually the first thing after playing a couple of hours of rome 2 was to delete it and downloading RS2.6, now playing it for around 2 weeks and enjoying it much).

But its your lifetime you're investing into this project, so no one would be angry if you say its enough after all these years. I will always play your mod, until rome total war ist not running anymore

RSII is definitely not a dead horse! Can't describe the joy I get while playing this masterpiece. I was stupid enough to believe that CA, with supposedly the largest budget ever, will check out these forums when designing their new game. Rome II did nothing but to make me depressed and sad. As CatoTheJunger said: "Thank Jupiter for RSII"!

+1 very interested in seeing a new and improved version of RS2 coming our way!!!

In fact, I've stopped playing R2 and gone back to playing a serious game - ie R1TW & M2TW mods (right now still playing Pontus 1-turn RS2 and Broken Crescent Abbasids)...

My personal (rather uneducated, but still valid I think) opinion is that R2 is not a good platform for a complex "total conversion" mod. It just lacks much of the mechanics needed to build a deep campaign-oriented mod (pretty much like all warscape CA games)

Looks like I'm one of the persons that do find R2 enjoyable, though not as enjoyable as i found RS2 when it came out. But that could be because it's newly released and poorly optimized. There are some things however that i believe can't be replicated to R2 but at the same time I really think moving to R2 could be the way to go. They really do have a lot of things that i miss in earlier engines. Auto replenishing, unmount, province system, more factions, animations, naval combat, stances and coop multiplayer are just some of the things I can think of now.

Whenever I go back to RS2 I only find it enjoyable in the beginning but when i get further into my campaign it just become boring and too repetitive for my taste.

At the moment R2 is too unstable but in another 3-6 months it could be quite good. And with RS2 it would potentially be my most favorite game.

Thanks dvk! TWcenter forums are awfully slow. I often find them impossible to use. I'm glad to hear that you have catched some ideas from R2 which you would like to incorporate into RS2. RS3 on R2 probably would be also nice. Best luck in future projects!

First of all I want to thank the RS 2 team for the massive and amazing mod they did for us and all of it for free. To dvk901, I would want offer some advice in regards to RS 2 and Rome 2. I think it would be better to continue working on RS 2 and see whether your team can add anything to the old Rome. This is especially because that if you are interested in working on Rome 2, my advice would be to wait for some months until Rome2 is stable and all the patches to fix it are all released. Until then its better to wait. I am interested in trying Rome but surely not for the present after all the criticism the game has received. I wanted to ask whether new animations can be added to RS2?

Stay with RTW and make RS III! That's my opinion. R2TW is still or it will stay one very arcade Warcraft styled game without any strategy elements into it.

Could there be a way to port the mod to M:TW2:K? The engine would be a bit more optimized.

That would be the bees knees...I just don't know how feasible it is. I am also of the opinion that M2TW is just a perfected version of the RTW engine. I don't think there is another version out there more perfect for the melee battles seen prior to the age of gunpowder. I'm guessing Warscape doesn't know how to melee properly, since it's so busy trying to be a gunpowder focused engine.
Plus you have new features in M2TW; Dread and chivalry, and better diplomacy. City/castle system, more factions supported, shield wall, merchants, religion...but that's not really needed. I do like RS-II as it is.

its not a dead horse!its still the best mod/game imho.as soon as my new mobo is installed im back on rs2.for now i play some other games.but no rome2 for now that is just to dumbed down for me.and i think its not going to be possible to mod it in the same way as you guys did with rtw.dunno if the building slots are hardcoded ,iff thats the case it will never be as good as rs2.not to speak off the battles that are so messi. if you choise is to quit the development of rs2 most of use will understand i think.i Always hoped that you make rs3 for rome2 but after playing that game i dont care anymore.than is mtw the best option to try something new imo.

I too agree. I been following RS1 and RS2 from the beginning and loved playing these two very much. Take a look at DE BELLO MUNDI and the upcoming EB2. You will have alot more advantages with the MED2 KINGDOMS engine. Once again please consider continuing with RS2.6.

I dunno, I think that if I was in dvk901's shoes I'd consider moving on to a new challenge. As much as I love RS it may be time to move on.

That being said RTW2's battlefield stuff is inherently inferior to RS. Without a doubt.

It's something to think on no doubt.

My question would adress the possible ports/idea's from Rome II to Roma Surrectum and vice versa.

As of yet, Rome II does not seem to be fully moddable, but then it has only been out for two weeks. I myself am highly sceptical of it's vanilla form but I can not forsee (since I understand nothing! of modding) how far CA is gonna open their doors to modders. I wouldn't wanna miss out on the sheer unit variety from RSII or it's economic system which I've gotten quite accustomed to. But then, who knows where Rome II is going. I've heard it said that even Rome wasn't built in a day

The community should keep an open mind. RSII stands perfect right now. At least to me. If there is room for improving RSII , and since there is no fundamental modding to be done on Rome II, I'd say hell yeah.

Only the future can tell what Rome II modding will look like I suppose.

I've not enjoyed any TW game since Shogun I without mods so I did not have high expectations for Rome II anyways. But then, even Empire and Napoleon were a thrill with the right mod.

I'm sure there will be a way to implement or adapt the RSII military and economic systems to Rome II in the future. From what I can gather from scrolling through the current mods, there seems to be the option to limit certain unit recruitment to certain regions. It does not seem to be possible to create units yet. I hope you guys see where I'm going with this. Patience and time will reveal it all.

I love RSII as it is. Maybe a tweak/bug squash here or there with a 2.7 release but I personally would pat myself on the back, take a break for a while, and then see if you have the interest and energy to maybe work with Rome II. Who knows maybe by that time they will have fixed some of the bugs and the mod community will have figured out some work-arounds.

I just think to how vanilla RTW is compared to RSII or any of the other great mods. Its like a completely different game. I'm sure Rome II will be no different. People just need to chill a bit and give it time. Hell don't we all remember the crazy flaming pigs in vanilla? Or how about those weird black Roman ninjas with the two swords? WTF?

Thank you to you and the RSII team.
