I don't think there's any doubt at this stage that this game was knowingly released in an unfinished state, probably to meet a deadline enforced by Saga.

Is "loose formation" (ie all formations being capable of adopting wider spacing in batle on demand) attested in classic sources?

I'm fairly certain Guard Mode is listed in the encyclopedia as well if you search for it.

I wouldn't be surprised if both of these things were added eventually.

Loose Formation was in in the Teutoburg teaser (it is 5 peglike figures in what is very similar to how Loose would look like, and all units have it). So along the line, someone decided that it was a good idea to remove it. I would like to hear the reasons, but I doubt that is going to be forthcoming.

i cant see any screenshot in your post but i guess it shows something from the encyclopedia which didnt make it into the game.

well, the "loose formation" feature is not the only thing. please read the complete encycl., there are a couple other things described which are now missing in the game

Why... why... why!??!!

So they put in all these crazy special abilities to be spammed like war cry, rapid reload. But they remove... LOOSE FORMATION?
Hell reminds me when I played as Parthia and I thought the "rapid reload" button was the cantabrian circle.

Nope, no cantabrian circle, no loose formation, they HAVE to fix this
