    Default Mod Selection Advice?

    I have bought every TW game since Rome TW, until now. Since my disappointment with Shogun and now seeing all of the same disappointing problems carried over to Rome II, I can't bring myself to buy Rome II until someone comes up with a fix.

    Forgive me, I haven't been monitoring the mods as much as I used to. I really appreciate if someone can direct me properly...

    What is the most promising mod right now for restoring sense of realism and epicness to the game, especially battles. I loved the long battles of Roma Surrectum and hate my screen cluttered with giant flags, laser arrows, and other arcadish distractions. I always got rid of these things in previous games by selecting the right mod or in the pre-warscape era, would mod them away myself.

    Are there any new supermods developing yet that remedy the majority of these issues?

    Any advice is appreciated!

    Here's mine :
    mod StrongerWalls.pack;
    mod SpecialAbilitiesBeGoneV3.pack;
    mod GCAMERA.pack;
    mod Splenyi_Campaign_Camera.pack;
    mod MOD_ARCADE_GRAPHICAL_EFFECTS_REMOVAL.pack;
    mod God_Save Carthage.pack;
    mod Magnar_Mod v108;
    mod PROM_Realistic_units.pack;

    additional:
    mod LAV_Officers_Redone_TRANS.pack;
    mod LAV_Arm_Legs_Adam.pack;
    mod LAV_Socii_v1.pack;
    mod LAV_Marian_Legions.pack;
    mod LAV_auxilia.pack;

    use GEM also...if you ant something big, you'll have to wait longer since patches still coming and mods will be reworked.

    Silven Total Improvement Mod

    The Silven Total Improvement Mod is the one I think is the best so far. It tweeks the combat so it lasts longer and units rout at appropriate times, not immediately after they start whacking away at each other but they won't stand to the last man either. There are also CAI recruitment tweeks and some tuning to the economy. There are a whole lot of changes described in the official description of the mod but that is the gist of it.

    The Radious Mods are really good and the fact they are constantly updated it means that even when a new patch is released, Radious will still fix what CA didn't

    But my general recommendation is to download several mods. And then use the Pack File Manager and mod them to your tastes.

    Radious Battle mod is awesome, but Magnar's mod gives you larger armies. Why not combine them and get the best out of both. What about Prometheus realistic height mod? Why not combine it with the many new skins for units mods. It makes the experience different completely!

    It can be a time consuming process to mod mods to your liking and to combine mods so no conflicts happen. But it gives you experience in the modding dept allowing you to mod the game yourself, and also gives you the game you want.

    I am using :
    Radious Mod
    Special abilities be gone
    Prometheus realistic unit heights
    and some texture mods/armor mods for Hellenistic units

    I am having a great campaign with Pontus on Very Hard. The fights are challenging and overall I'm having a lot of fun.

    Thanks everybody! I appreciate it. My schedule is very hectic right now, so modding isn't really in my cards. But I'll probably buy this weekend and give some of these mods a try.

    So far, for a good overhaul IMO; I recommend Silven's mod. There's alot of features and the best thing by far is sniping is gone, missile troops have ranges/accuracy depending on range making the titular Roman testudo formation more plausible in gameplay. It also includes unit spacing features to improve cohesion and the battles aren't so blobby. It feels like a different game which is good, because vanilla was getting on my nerves the longer I played it.

    Radious mod is also good but lacks some other features covered in Silven's mod. Try out different mods, that's the joy of a moddable game - and at least CA did this right. If they released this buggy game without modding support I'll probably be really p-ssed, and I'm one of the ones who actually likes this game.
