No, you beat them, and then decide whether to be an empire or continue the Republic.

Well I know the rebellious faction shows up in the diplomacy screen, so it "may" be possible to make peace after all? I reall couldnt try this in my own civi lwar though, I wanted my lands back!

The number of factions in politics: in Empire/Kingdom it's 2 (ruling family + other families) in Republic it's 4 (3 competing families + other families), don't know if anything else changes much.Originally Posted by Mahijsimo
