Plague question

How can I tell if my a unit has the plage? I ask because I attack and capture a city that dosent have it then it does when I take over. The thing is none of my citys have had it yet, and the black plague hasnt struck yet. It just seems wierd that the city only gets it if I attack, I reloaded and everything just to check.

If you click on a city, you should notice a few icons. There are icons for rebellion, siege and plague at the bottom right part of the window. They're greyed out unless the effect is active. I'm not sure if they show correctly unless there's a spy nearby.

Edit: oh sorry, you were asking about units. Leave it outside of town when ending turn, and if it doesn't start dying, it's clean. That's the only thing. Agents and generals show plague icon in their details, but it won't show until next turn after getting infected.
