Default Official Patch 2 downloaded: Still needs a lot of work - Discuss/Provide Feedback

So Patch 2 is officially here, and I think it's time for some feedback to CA. Feel free to add your thoughts.

    For me, the following:

    - Optimization of Campaign Map Performance, especially when clicking on something that shows a 3D portrait (army, agent, even a city). Right now, when I start a new Rome Campaign, I get around 45 fps which drops quickly as I expand across the map down to 20 or so. That's me not doing anything. When I click on an agent or army/fleet, I get 21 fps if lucky and later in the late campaign, I get 12.

This STILL hasn't been addressed. A sliver of increase on fps with this patch doesn't fix that fundamental problem of fps dropping to slide show levels when performing certain actions like 'gasp' clicking on an army or agent.

If the ugly 3D portrait is the problem, either give us an option to make its appearance optional or optimize it so it doesn't cripple the fps for the campaign map.

    - Optimization of the Campaign Map Performance as you expand across the map later in the campaign, and gross increase in turn time wait. Right now, these two things make the game lose at least 30fps over time in my experience, going from 45 to 15 with only 10 provinces.

    - If there are any plans to bring back agent mission videos and more event/immersion cinematic videos, that would also be greatly appreciated.

    - Battles are still too quick - either up the armor, rebalance, or do something but right now it's incredibly fast. Ships sink too fast. Men die quicker than you can throw pila at them.

    - Give pila/javelin equipped melee infantry a chance to conduct "fire at will".

    - Shield mechanics should be changed to much better reflect how it benefits its user rather than just give bonus to armor and melee defense: This right now makes testudo useless.

-Testudo should be properly implemented. Right now it's half-done: HOW DID YOU MAKE THIS WORSE FROM ROME 1?

    - Not sure if this is a warscape engine problem, but right now horse archers and all missile units have to shift their who formation to put targets 'back in arc'. This is relevant in firearms age, but what we have right now is vastly inferior to systems used back in Rome 1 and MTW2. This neuters archers and missile units.

    - OPTIMIZATION OF CAMPAIGN MAP PERFORMANCE

Is the patch really up? I didn't downloaded anything. I had the beta2 patch installed over the weekend and ended my participation on the beta yesterday evening which resulted in another 70mb download which was propably the setback from the betapatch.

All I know is the beta patch worked wonders for me on campaign map performance. Battles have also been much more enjoyable at the new speed. The beta patch at least gets a big A+ from me. Anymore gameplay tweaks will be considering icing on the cake.

Yeah, turn times is much better. I got little improvement on much of anything else from the beta, but turn times were much better.

Yes, turn times are also much better for me. I still get a huge drop when moving the mouse over an enemy army/agent (the read highlight).

I would like to see an improvement on the units as well , like reenstablishing normal hunit heights and not disproportioned ones of vanilla ... sort of like the mod did in my signature ,
then some more unit details like differentiationg a bit more units ith more armors , more officers, and woudl be cool to have Arcani back , I mean we seen all sort of borderline units why not Arcani?
Also would be cooler to see proper druids ala RTWI rather than the ones that I saw that left me more like ... meh ..- also some if not most of the abilities do not have a relative animation , I mean I pressed chant and nothing happened on druids ...

Also the charioter riders of iceni looked ooler in RTWI now its just another random heavy armored unit, I understand the need to represent Barbarians more covered, but they lost their soul and coolness factor of seeing picted tribes.

also some other detail fixing like berserkers not wearing bear skins but wolf ones, tried to fix with a mod but the all bear pelts looked the same and are the ones used by officers on campaign map , I woudl like to actually see the generals units in the battlefield, be able to customize ur general like STWII etc ...

Really there are so many features missing and stripped from this game that I wonder how it is possible?

How it is possible that are the same creators of the Shogun II , that for me was a masterpiece ?

Why remove almoust anything that worked for going downslope?

I mean even the units looked more detailed and much more alive in STWII , almoust real m while here we see a lot of bland texture quick works like on theparthians that look honestly really drawed in and not photorealistic with those silly all one color blue and yellows stuff ....

I think that RTW perhaps shoudl have taken another 2 years development colateral to another TW title of more easy approach like a Medieval III ...

MTWIII coudl have been focused on the high medieval age , so skiping renaissence and gunpowder and New world ... then followed by a new expansion/game that expands in late medieval age, renaissence and new world too ...

and in meanwhile keep working on a superdetailed Rome II ....

bring alive all what seemed to be promised in the very first cinematic video .... I mean that was super cool why remove from the game? why not use it in the main screen loading as there was that other super CGI cool one made for STWII?

theres something that i would like added its not really because of the patches im just finding it hard to spot a difference i play Iceni the dignitary units warlord spy druid... i put the warlord into the army to level up units but i would like to see it on the battle field map too decked out in unique style armor / unit as most of its skills have things like a small force attacking villages.

I just thought it would be cool to be a small like 20-30 man unit with the leader at the front of it on the battlemap. Otherwise i dont really see the point of using them over spies or druids.

Champions are one of the best agents there are, they are perfect for deploying in newly conquer provinces since they boost happiness by 10 or even more sometimes. Having two champions in the same region makes it possible to move your armies out of the settlement immediately after u capture it. Champions are also useful in times of peace to train your armies.

Dignitaries are my favorite agents - perfect in invasions since the give u bonus to public happiness but most importantly with help of just two dignitaries u can convert provinces to your culture in 5 turns ( on legendary).

I ain't playing the Romans until Testudo/Pilum fire-at-will is fixed. Or unless mods fix it. But I agree on your post. The patch was a step in the right direction but its just one step.

Actually I only encountered a few bugs since released day up until now(no problem with hardware or huge drop frame rates) and the patch 2 beta improved the game a lot so I am pretty much satisfy now, it only need a little more touch on AI and this game gonna be worth the money I spent.

I don't really think testudo is a problem. For me the hoplite phalanx is bug more than the testudo. Testudo work much better if you use it against archer but for AP type like javelineer and slinger it not as good as it used to be. if you facing javelineer or slinger better start running than be a sitting duck

Was the 77MB download today the patch 2?
    How can I check it?

After the 1.5 beta patch it was removed from the beta opting in section of properties in steam. That's the only way I can tell and so far it hasn't removed patch 2 for me yet. However patch 2 is 77 odd mbs so it appears likely yours updated.

The lag has something to do with the things that glow I'd assume. I've noticed this when capturing flags as well where the glowing arrows appear, fps goes down.

Radious mod seem to help as it sort of reduce this on the campaign map.

When the official 2.0 Patch is released, depending on your Rome 2 settings in Steam, default setting will automatically update you to the newest patch upon starting Steam.

I have only been playing multiplayer since the Beta patch, and the syncing has been greatly improved on that front, and even though the battles are usually smaller than the battles I'll play in Campaign, it seems the framerate has been improved and stays constantly around 60 FPS and drops to 40 FPS during close up zoomed in fighting.

Does the unit cohesion and battle morale/fighting speed/kill rate seem to be enhanced in the Campaign fighting the AI? Battles last longer and maintain formation better etc??

I think, we're talking about the beta patch here. Anyway, in my experience, the campaign AI has improved quite a bit in this patch. I am having a completely different game playing as Macedon (on H for now to learn the mechanics).

One thing I noticed was that several one province minors are going broke some time after turn 20-25. I decided to attack one-province Bithynia who seemed to have a strong army (judging by the number of stacks) just to find out that all their armies were 1/10th strength [the armies had the red skull-icon hovering above them] due to the faction not being able to pay for the armies (the only full strength force they had was a full stack of ships, which for some reason did not get hit by their budget problem). When I conquered the town it was clear where the problem was: there were only a few buildings in the province: all contributing to the military. No wonder the faction went broke.

I later sent a spy to another one-province minor state: the same problem. Several army stacks all with the red-skull plague: a bankrupt faction.

The factions that either start with multiple provinces or managed to conquer another province early did not appear to have the same problem.
