Icon5 Just made Seleucid a Client state - Need a bit of help understanding the consequences.

    Hi,

I am playing a campaign with maks on hard difficulty. I am allied with Athens (not client state), Sparta and Nakomenes. Have Tylis and Dalmatai as my Client states.

Now i was at war with Seleucids and all of its satrapies. I just captured the last city that the selucids had in Syria and decided to subjugate the city rather than occupying it. This resulted in Selucids ebcoming my Client staes but it was accompanied by a few consequences that were quite different from my expectations:

    1)
Assumption - After my conquest and subjugation of Seleucids, my allies and Client staes would become "at peace" with them and both parties would leave each other be.
Reality -They are still at war with them - sending their stacks at 'em and seleucids sending armies back at 'em. Also, my relations with each of my allies and client states has detiriorated by a small amount.
Problem - Now i want seleucids to survive and do not want to fight my own allies but this situation seems to have put me in quite the dillema.

    2)
Assumption - The seleucid Satrapies would break away from seleucid, declaring their freedom
Reality - The Seleucid satrapies maintain their satrapy status to Seleucid. I am now "at peace" with them but even though i am their master's master, they are not my client states.
Problem - Once again, my allies are still at war with them and are asking me to join their war against these satrapies which puts me in a dillemma as this would probably make seleucid go to war with me too!

Do you guys think this is OK diplomacy wise or as is my opinion, is a kind of a bug which needs to be changed?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Seemed bugged or absurd. However, when trying to make any sense of it, I can see a situation where a ruler keeps the head kingdom of a group of vassal states in charge of thsoe vassal states even after taking over said city. The reason being that they themselves do not want to micromanage the vassal states. However, those vassal states should ultimately answer to the master of the master and on top of that the player should have a choice to assign which vassal states rule over which other vassal states......

So i think its a bug because making sense of it seems to lead to absurdities.

    @CannabisMaximus: Agreed.
I wish seleucids would be a more complex and a very very strong faction if their client states are still in their tow!!! Should probably emerge as an eastern superpower (if not overrun by Parthia or their Client states rebelling against them).

I mean it would be pretty awesome to have some of their client states to transfer their client state status to me while some declare their independence!!! That would be quite awesome indeed

    I think it's not bug.

    - Your ally decided war or peace with Seulecid by themself, they could still attack Seulecid, although it's your clients.

    - You are master of Seulecid, not it's satrapies. They can choose follow you or not. it's normal in history.

@ Sephiroth: Your argument about the allies is sound and makes sense. Perhaps a "make peace" option could be added to diplomacy to request you allies to make peace with your new client states - I am sure they can be convinced to direct their attentions elsewhere

As for the satrapies, at the very least they should now break free from selecids right? I mean i am now Seleucids' master and they cannot possibly be still bowing to them... Cannibus' idea seems quite awesome to me in this regard...
