Default Rome II worldwide sales figures.

Does anyone know how well Rome II is selling? I just read that it is close to no.1 in the UK but have seen some comments here that indicate some think the sales figures aren't great. What was the pre-order number?

In the long run I think charging £44.99 for what appears to be a highly unstable game with multiple issues is probably going to burn Total War in the long imo. I'm sure Sega will boast record sales though, no doubt. Rome is probably the most well known game.

The developer only sees a small fraction of each $60 game sold. Or did you think retailers like Gamestop buys Rome 2 for $60, sells it to you for $60, and earns zero? Maybe distributors work for free too, who would have guessed?

We don't have gamestop in the uk. Nor do we use dollars. Thus, I used £. If you don't understand UK currency and the price of games in the UK, it's not really a discussion worth having.

Not sure what you are trying to argue in this part. Distribution hasn't driven up the price of other games. Also I bought my copy digital with cuts quite a large part of costs. Chances are it's probably Sega being greedy and not much else.

Also another point, i'm a customer, not a charity. I'm primarily interested in a good high quality good at a value price. Not Sega's well being. You will find this is the case with pretty much every customer I think.

Generally the game charts don't do a report for this month until early next month. CA's dream would be to sell a million copies in 12 months, that's when the expensive champagne will be uncorked. Shogun2 has sold half a million to date.

That's total units, it don't matter how it is delivered.

The only accurate figures for the sales of our games are ones we release ourselves. I will say that the figures quoted in this thread are a gross underestimation of how well previous games have sold.

Maybe this game sells well, but it is because we were tricked by false advertising about it, this or we were misled knowingly by CA / SEGA
i learn my lesson with this..."game"..from now one i will not pre order anything made by CA in my life!

I think it would have sold quite well because of the pre orders. However if CA hadn't sucked us in with the wonderful trailers which weren't in the game and the bad state of the game at launch. The game would been dead in the water with out pre order sales.

Am I the only one with access to the "top sellers" tab in Steam? Rome II has been #1 or #2 on the list since since launch, despite the negativity. And was in the top 10 for months before launch, and number 1 for probably a week or more solid before launch.

It has clearly sold a lot.

"Lastly, Sega announced that it sold more than 2 million Total War games in the past year, despite no new core installment in the series being released. "
S2TW probably sold more than 1/2 million last year alone. I expect R2TW will have sold about 800K to 1 Million copies already.
When I was playing R2TW on a ship, two guys were interested what I was playing and recognized the title. I told them it's a very nice game and they said they're thinking to buy it. The game sells well.

Sega announced that it sold more than 2 million Total War games in the past year,
Gotta read between the lines, man!

According to VGchartz the three main TW titles sold around 370k units in 2012. However add in all those DLC's that go with the titles that went for a few dollars and yes, you triple, quadruple, ect that stat.

Let's say 200k TWR2 have sold so far, well for starters you can double that because Sega will count the Greek pack separately. On top of that they'll add the Seleucid pack as another "sale".

You have to be a Gemini like me to work these things out!

For example Shogun2 has sold 510k units, then multiply that by the DLC's and you get what 2 million? 2.5 million?

vgchartz is a crap site. It is desribed in numerious news and forums. First they don't include the digital copies, the numbers represent the over-the-counter sales only. So due to this factor the sales of PC games are always to low by vgchartz. Second the estimations outside the US market made by them are not plausible due to NPD. Some companies already stated that the numbers on this site are far away from reality.

edit. Jack Lusted ninjad me. Also CA says that the sales figures on vgachartz are just a piece of .

I suspect that VGchartz has got the goods.

Of course that doesn't include pirated copies sold in Mainland China and the former Soviet Union. And what would Jack know about sales, not his line of expertise is it?

I don't look down on those figures, if they can flog a million TWR2 in 12 months then CA will be very happy. Even if they only score $10 on average for each main title sold in the 12 months, that's $10 million incoming. For CA that pays the bills and then some!
