    Default Yes, the inevitable question...

Sigh. You guys must get this a lot here, don't ya? So I'll make it quick
With the impending release of MTWII, I drastically am in need of a MAJOR computer upgrade

    I currently have a Dell Dimension 2350. Apparently I have a Pentium 4 CPU 1.80GHz........Um......well I'll just show you.

(yes, make fun of me all you want )

Anyway, I know that buying RAM (1 Gig) and a new graphics card (I'm on "Extreme" graphics card, a la Dell) will be essential. So I have 2 questions.

    1) Are the only things that need upgrading are RAM and a graphics card? Please don't tell me I'll have to build a computer from scratch! Please please please. That's the last thing I want

    2) Any RAM or graphics cards that you guys can recommend to me? Preferably under a total of ....lets say.....$150? Or $175 max.

Thanks a lot, anyway. A long time ago I remember PyrrhusIV finding me some RAM and a card, but I don't think it will be enough.

Um maybe? As for the second part, would that be compatible with my Dell do you think?

Whats slot type is your GFX card?
I don't know, how do I find out?

I don't think a 1.8ghz Pentium 4 is going to run M2TW well, I don't think it would even run RTW well, not on huge anyways. Sorry, but I think you are going to need a new computer if you want to play M2TW half decently at all.
NOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You've got to be shittin' me? I don't really care for the "OH killer graphics" and "life sized army" thing. Would I be able to play on all medium settings do you think?

Yeah, I'm not very handy with computers as you can tell :tooth: But that 1.8 ghz......would that be like a motherboard? How much would those cost (bare mininum?

If it is in fact a pci card, I'm thinking it will run, not well, but it will run.

We are not even sure if he has AGP yet. Bulgaroctonus look in your case, do you see a slot (usually brown), thats bigger than all the others slots? Or is all the slots the same size and color?

Ok, well it's 10:40, I'm tired, and not motivated enough to open up my computer case right now. But I did download that CPU-Z, and I'll post everything tomorrow

You MAY be able to play M2TW at LOW settings on SMALL unit sizes with your current pc, but I'm not promising anything.
Oh, it will be able to play the thing, I can promise him that, alright. The problem is, it will look extremely badly. I have a hunch it will go the way that my old computer did when I played RTW: there are no ground textures, instead, it looks just like the sky to save on the hardware. All of the troops have no color, and everything from a urban cohort to a peasant look alike. Cavalry does not have horses visible. Units occurationly become invisible as you zoom out, with only their standards visible to let you know that they are there. If you can stand all of that, then no problems.

From the looks of M2TW, with all the animations and the huge detailed maps, it looks like its going to be a much more demanding game than RTW, CPU and GPU wise. Sure you might be able to play it with a decent amount of men smoothly, but be prepared for some extensive tweaking, and a new graphics card. Integraded is not going to cut it. :hmmm:

WEll, yea I know that haha, that's the first thing that I'm changing, is the the graphics card. I just have to find a good one that is compatible with my computer, but isn't rediculously expensive. Like the one mango posted. Around that price range.

Well, on my old computer, MTW shows more details then RTW, so if they use the same engine, it would also strip away the detail to let him play the thing.
Also, that old computer uses 3 years old laptop intergrated video. And yes,I do act like a machoist, sometimes.

That would depend entirely on whether you have a AGP slot or not. If you don't, then you are really in for some serious trouble ahead.

    Hence why I said:
Open up your case, and look to see if you have open slots, like PCI (White) etc. Look if you have an AGP (Brown, sometimes green in dell) slot above the PCI (White) slots. I know you dont have PCI-Express, but look for AGP.
For Under $170, I suppose we could give you another 512MB of RAM, a better processor, and maybe a better VC... it all depends upon those slots.
All we can do is wait for the Bulgar

That would depend entirely on whether you have a AGP slot or not. If you don't, then you are really in for some serious trouble ahead.
Very true. If he doesnt, well, I wonder how cheap we could be on him, cause he would most likely need another mobo, and other accessories. Lets be cheap!

Alright, here is the CPU-Z thing. I don't have time to open up my computer right now, but later today I will

    A 1.8ghz Pentium 4 is VERY different from a 1.8ghz Athlon.

True, he can actually get a halfway decent Pentium 4 or a Celeron.... still though, it all comes down to his GPU...uhg... i'm hoping he doesnt have PCI only....
