I'd never really run into a problem with them before, but this has gotten ridiculous. I was in a battle where the enemy had about 3000 troops attacking my 1100. The main bulk of the enemy force was going to be at the bottom of a hill, and I placed my troops at the top of the hill (obviously). In the pre-battle unit placement, I didn't see where the capture point was (now I have no idea if it even IS visible until you start the battle). So I had completely forgotten this game HAD them, as they'd never come into play in any of my previous open field battles. I set my army up with all the fire balls, fire/brimstone pits, and barricades ready to defend. As soon as the battle started, I noticed the bloody capture point. "Well, damn it," I thought, "I hope they dont rush for that." Luckily, the main enemy force didn't. They all started heading for my army. I saw the enemy's 3 reinforcement armies coming, starting with their naval reinforcements. Only two ships (garrisons from the nearby city).
I didn't pay them much mind and focused on the other two land-based reinforcements coming which joined up with the enemy's main force. As they got close, I used my mercenary punching-bags to start up my traps. The fire balls took out a good number of the enemy melee troops, while the brimstone pits kept the enemy ranged units at bay. As their remaining spear men and sword units got close, they attacked me in very unfortunate formations for them. The brimstone pits had caused them to come in very thin, and thus I was able to easily rout them with minimal resistance using a small number of soldiers. My archers picked off a huge amount of them while my cavalry got around back and destroyed their range units. Almost their whole army was routing while I'd barely lost anyone (except for some poor guys I accidentally crushed with my own general unit who was riding elephants. Herp.) Suddenly, I get the message, "Close Defeat". What?! How the hell?!
Then I remembered the capture point. And I noticed that, while I couldn't see them, I could tell that the guys on the 2 ship fleet hadn't joined up with the rest of the enemy army. Those two javelin units had captured the flag. At the end battle loading screen, the enemy had lost nearly 90% of its guys while I lost about 10%. Yet that stupid capture point (which doesn't make any sense, logically, for its existence) caused me to lose the battle.
