I've posted the same thread over at the official TW forums in the hope I get an answer. But I thought it couldn't hurt to try here:

Yes, I know, a handful for the title, but they describe my problem best. I don't even know what part of the sub-forums to put this under, because I'm having problems that pretty much cover the whole campaign map lag/general low fps/ctd on start fields, so I thought it best just to put it here in the General Support Forum.

Anyway, I've taken the liberty of attaching quite a liberal amount of information to this post in the hopes my problem gets fixed. I've waited till this second beta patch to come out, hoping my problems would be fixed, but unfortunately it seems they have not.

Here is a brief description of my issues:


Issues:


  • Low FPS, mostly on the Campaign Map, despite high-end rig. (Marginal 8 FPS gain from very low to ultra)
  • After patch2beta update, and suggested hotfixes to FX Processor AND Windows 7 PC, game CTD's on start.
  • Only fixed by disabling DX11 in preferences - lag remains, despite veg. alpha, shader model 5/etc being disabled.

What I've Already Tried:


- Lowering the SPECS.


First thing I tried, put it all the way down to "low" and I only got a marginal FPS improvement. On Ultra, I get around 6-12 FPS on the Campaign map, and between 15-30 during battles. On Low, I got 10-20 on the Campaign Map, and around 25-40 in battles.

Given my rig, this is obviously unacceptable.


- Disabling Alpha Vegetation / Lowering Shader Model / Disabling VSync


Tried it all, nothing showed any significant improvement in FPS gain.


- Updating my Asus BIOS


As shown with one of the screenshots above, my BIOS is already updated to the latest version available. (15.03)


- Installing Microsoft HotFixes for Windows 7/FX CPU Multi-threading/Core Parking Issue


As suggested in this thread here, I installed both these patches, in the hopes of fixing the problem.


Annoyingly, my game would no longer launch. It simply froze after I started it, with a constant black screen that didn't go anywhere. I tried what others have, in deleting the Rome 2 folder in apps/roaming and all that, didn't work. The only thing that worked was this, which brings me to....


- Disabling DirectX11 in the preferences ini


Yes, that makes my game load again, but now I can't activate vegetation alpha, turn up the shader model above 3, besides a number of other graphical improvements. Ironically, my FPS is actually WORSE NOW than it was before. This is now the only way I can play the game, as turning DirectX11 on means I get an insta-freeze on the loading screen.

Conclusion

  • If anybody has a solution to these issues, I'd be glad to hear. I'd love to see CA make some sort of reply on how it plans to optimise the game for similar systems, because I paid £30 for this game, and nearly 30x that for my machine, which is capable of playing other high-end games on max with no hitches whatsoever.
