Firstly, how is it that on high settings, shogun 2 and napoleon look WAY better than Rome 2? Luckily I played tested it through a friends steam account, and didn't pay for it. I was shocked when I seen some of those metacritic reviews, but this really is utterly disgusting. The test says that I should run it on extreme settings, but you get like 5 frames, so that doesn't work. Even on high, HIGH meaning HIGH, one would think that the graphics would be reasonable at the very least. Unbelievable, it just doesn't make sense.

Its your computer. And I sympathize, because I was having the exact same thoughts as you for Shogun 2- I couldn't understand why Medieval 2 looked better for me, and Shogun 2consistently looked plastic and weird. Then I bought a new computer. Rome is the by far the best looking Total War game to date, if you have the right specs.

I put everything on extreme, anti-a x16, it still looks AWFUL. The trees don't look like trees, I was playing in the iceni part of the map, it's hideous.

If I put everything on extreme with AA at x16, but I was playing on a toaster, it would look awful.

I'm playing on maxed, on a computer that can play on maxed, and this is by faaaaar the best looking Total War game ever produced.

I think you are mistaken Mitch. You are confusing Good Graphics and Good Aesthetics.

This game has HORRIBLE Aesthetics. Its nothing but different brown tones. Everything runs together. Too much overdone blending and blurred areas.

Shogun 2 on the other hand had clear cut edges, perfectly done colors, and non-offensive shaders.

In Graphics, Rome 2 has better graphics.

In the overall better looking game, Shogun 2 looks far better.

Have to learn the difference my friend.

And whoever said R2 looks better than S2 needs to go get a reality check or an eye test.It is an ugly peice of dirt not even fit to be mentioned in the same breath as pre FOTS shogun 2.Hell the current version of S2 actually has a graphics nerf to a lot of things like HDR,DOF,Draw distance.

Graphics dissapointed me because of the screenshots that were posted pre-launch. With the GEM mod however it's much better.

the quality of the graphics fluctuates a lot between "oh my god, super-awesome, best graphics evaaar!" and "lololol this looks even worse than Shogun, Empire and Medieval2 combined"


the problem is some parts of the graphics seem to be buggy, the AA (or lack of) is awful sometimes which is especially visible on a clear sunny day, and there is just too much inconsistency. the textures on units are crisp and detailed. the skybox is pretty nice too, but the ground and environment textures look almost last-gen

all in all i m pretty pleased with the graphics though, on the battlefield as well as on the campaign map..... IF the the game would have a better performance.
