Holy mother of mercy! Civil War on Legendary!!

Sweet jesus! A fair while into my campaign on legendary, and civil war erupts. 3 armies would have been a challenge, with most of my legions spread in Spain and Africa, but 8!!!?? With elephants to boot, and only a single legion in Italy to hold back the hoard!!

Now, I don't mind this per say (I'm looking forward to the challenge), but I would of liked a bit of warning. I think there should be a message saying "civil war imminent: even the balance of power or prepare for war!". I was silly enough to assume I would get such a message. My problem with this is that I actually wanted to remain a republic. However, without doing anything, my reputation kept on rising, and evening the balance of power cost insane amounts of money! I payed a couple of 10,000 marriages to try and address the balance, but it did little to raise the other families' reputation.

So, a warning to all the future emperors out there: once your reputation gets to around 70%, start making armies at your capital; you're in for a bumpy ride.

I'll update this as the turmoil unfolds.

I just had the same thing happen to me and I don't know how I am going to deal with it. They appeared in Athens for me so at least I have some distance between us, but all my armies are busy in Africa and keeping the barbarians off my back in the north. This is going to be a very rough ride.

In my game I am going to try and make some vassals to offer some protection from other factions and then pull my armies back to defend italy. It doesn't help that everyone seems to be declaring war on me lately. Only my allies are standing by me.

Yes 8 stacks is nothing compared to what some members of the forum have had to put up with . Count yourself lucky!

Maybe I should continue playing beyond my strong republic... This looks interesting. Republics tend to want an even % of power, while Barbarian tribes tend to want the ruling family to be dominant.

I've been trying to complete a civil war for five hours. Two verse nine (Only four in each battle.), somewhere between crushing the third and fourth army I crash.

Btw, I noticed the armies are copies of my own right down to upgrades and experience but with a extra of one of them. Is that normal?

I had 9 full stack armies and 6 full stack fleets on hard. I payed the factions around me to fight them as well. It should cost them some stacks and if they take over my allies I get free provinces afterwards. I always wanted to take Athens and Sparta without harming my diplomatic relations.

Well, I've managed to crush the dirty rebels! I found the best tactic was to divide and conquer. I would lure one or two armies away with one of my smaller armies, right into my 3 stack ambush, and destroy them. That said, it was quite a drawn out process, and they ended up capturing most of my Southern Italian provinces before I could bring the final blow.

After I had destroyed the faction, a message came up asking me whether I wanted to go empire or republic. It didn't say the benefits of either, but I hope I won't have to face another civil war again; all of the options in the faction tab (secure promotion, marriage, assassinate etc.) are grayed out, so I assume probably not.

Playing my campaign on Legendary too, im hoping i shud be done tommorrow, to reach my domination victory.

My Civil war had me facing down 9 legions & 6 fleets, spawned at carthage, tucked erm away quite nicely, hammer and anvil style on the campaign map, they managed to spread into sicliy & africa, before i halted them at spain, & crushed them in Italy. Once you kill a few of the loyalist legions, the ai starts to panic, and will try's to claw back land where ever it can,

No were near as hard as Roma surrectum 2 Civil war, but im hoping i beat the campaign before the next civil war. Just need to amass the armies to march to armenia now, and should be done hopefully.

By the way, the bonus for being Emperor is:

-10% upkeep
-25% corruption

no negatives from what i can see, not sure whats gonna happen when my leader die's

Took me 3 rounds to defeat them, but then I'm not playing on legendary And I had 2 half stacks near Athen and a full stack 2 turns away. Because of capture points and the AI is terrible and managed to win even tho it was 1500 vs 6000+ in one of the battles.
