Deleting the Preferences file

If I delete the preferences file would the game then auto-detect my graphics capabilities? Would it generate a new replacement file?

I `ve just replaced my aging GFX 260 with a GFX 670 and want to be sure that the game is fully recognising my new card.

P.S. Which is the highest Shader model and is there much difference between them. (Trying them out does`nt appear to be any difference-what`s your experience?).

There is no difference between the shader models. AFAIK the setting has no effect in Rome 2.(I've compared to shogun 2)
