So basically what I am asking is what are you opinions on transexuals and getting a sex change?

Really, I have no problem with it, its peoples right to do what they want with thier own body.

Personally, I find it a little strange, but I have no problem with people doing it if they so wish.
But then, I am an insidious god-hating liberal. I can imagine that religious types would be thoroughly offended that someone would want to change what god had given them.

Well it's a cross cultural thing, it's world-wide like homosexuality. I believe there is something genetic in the syndrome. There was the case of a soldier who always felt deep down that he should have been female, and he decided to get the "cut and tuck" or whatever. When they operated they found a non-functional uterus inside him, proving in his case a definite biological link. Not that all cases are like that, but if it makes the person happy then why not?

Having said that, I have a young boy who loves me to death and follows me around imitating everything I do. He so loves his dad. If he suddenly started turning 'girly' on me I would feel quite upset....betrayed even . It would be a difficult thing to go through but I would love him nevertheless (I think I would have noticed something by now anyway!)

EDIT: I think I could accept a transsexual much easier than I handle those freaky transvestites. At least a transexual is not just "playing dress-ups" and carrying on like a loon. Transexuals are very serious about it, they have to go through rigorous psychological examination and testing prior to any operation (at least in the west) so that no mistakes are made. At least they are REAL about their situations, not just playing at it.

I'll admit. The idea of a man changing into a woman (ala Transamerica) and engaging in sexual activities is mildly disturbing. Regardless, as Shaun was saying, it's their body, they're free to mold it as they see fit.

I don't like piercings but I don't suggest that people with piercings should get hanged.

But again you fail to miss the point, its peoples own bodies, they can do what ever they want to thier own bodies, it is really none of your buisness at all. Gender reassignement treatment is a set of medical procedures aiming to adjust an individual to the appropriate gender for him/her.

Technically, if you have had a sex change then you would be the opposite sex from your original sex, there is no denying this.

If it is a friend then I might call him dude for a while because of habit
But I would try respect their wishes and refer to them as a woman.

Its pointless. If you are religious then you can be opposed to it for changing what god gave you, and if you are atheist you can be opposed to it for opposing what happened chemically within the fertilized egg.
