    Default Roman Archers?

    Hey All,

New to the forums, but not to TW. Love the series! Disappointed with Rome II especially after all the hype. Dunno why they just didnt use the same mechanics as Shogun II. If it aint broke dont fix it?

anyway, does anyone know how on earth you build Roman Archers? I just cant figure it out. I have both types of barracks - in different settlements.

I tried to find a unit guide but cant find nowt.

    Any ideas

    thanks

    Tom

You have to build an auxilla barracks in another territory that can build archers. There are no roman archers, only greek archers you can recruit.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm sure i already have one of those in its own province.

Why on earth have CA omitted Roman Archers?

Because historically romans didn't recruit "latin" archers and pulled their archers from the provinces in the form of auxillia.

I can recruit Auxiliary Axe Warriors and Spear Warriors in Raetia Et Noricum. Can't recruit them any other place. So it looks like you're right Tom. I've got another another being built in Macedonia. It's showing it can recruit horse archers, but not foot archers. Will update once it's built.

oohh Axe Warriors! nice, I've got one in CisalPina and it gives me Spear Auxiliary and Celtic Sword Auxiliary - good for softening up the enemy.

ah, i found this map, if you hover over each province it tells you what you can recruit! http://maps.totalwar.com/

If you look around in the encyclopedia you will see that in order to recruit their own auxiliary archers, I believe they are called sagitarri in game, you must own provinces in the "Syria" region. I'm not sure if you need to own them all or just one of the provinces because I haven't gotten that far as Rome yet but you need Syria to recruit your own archers that aren't mercenaries.

Nearest place, you are able to recruit auxilia archers is Uburzis, thats the south of Germania Magna. Cyrene, Creta or Dacia is also not that far.

And yes, roman archers was a mistake in Rome I. The romans had no archers.

Thtat does not suck. It is simply authentic. If you don't like to recruit like a roman, you should consider to not play as a roman!

And this is why we have a game where neither side is happy.

In the red corner you have the die hard fan and wiki-storian, in the blue corner you have the noob and casual gamer who doesn't care about history. In the middle you have the rare normal people who don't complain like Total War is their lifelong love.

Don't worry, they'll soon be coming in the Ranged Combat DLC pack. If you preorder now you'll get the Iceni Slingers free of charge, too!

I love it like this because it really suits my heavy-infantry/heavy-cavalry play-style.

Cretan archers are the closest one you can get from an auxilia barrack in Athens or Sparta
