The unit behavior is the worst flaw of Total War Rome 2 and is also the hardest one to fix since battle AI behavior is very difficult to mod.
Can anyone here do it or are we stuck with a game with its core gameplay element completely broken?

This may shock you, but Darth really is not only one who can mod AI...
Apologies for anyone who's message i may miss or not be able to answer
With battles slowed down and AI unit recruitment enhanced, I'm finding that the battlefield AI in this game is actually pretty good. I've had some incredibly hard fought battle in my Hard campaign using Radious's mod.
B...b...but Darth is overrated!
We'll have to wait either for CA to make changes in upcoming patches (highly unlikely), or for someone else to mod. Check out Radious' mod for the time being, he has improved the battle gameplay dramatically already IMO although the AI is still completeboth in the campaign and in battles.
Umm... editing battlefield AI is impossible unless you edit the exe file (which is illegal and thus not allowed on twcenter), darth's (frankly not so great mods) where just stat changed that made the AI seem a bit better.

Changelog for +++1.0+++:

T.W.C.
Total War Cynics
Sums it up.
I used DarthMod Empire, but I saw DarthMod Shogun 1.0 and he retooled the entire game immediately and he changed everything in the name of Not Vanilla. I read that he thought archers were too lethal. I pointed that the soldiers lacked shields so how exactly are they living longer and it was like I poked a bear.
He makes user friendly modpacks but his attitude definitely encouraged the notion that Vanilla is broken by definition and must be fixed.

It's funny cause it's true. He always claimed his changed were to be more realistic. That couldn't be further from the truth. He made arbitrary changes based on what he wanted. That is perfectly fine but claiming it was to be more realistic is laughable.
Especially when it is clearly documented that during the feudal period in Japan, the largest cause of wounds in battle was the arrow. Followed by the spear (if memory serves me correctly, it's been awhile since I took Medieval Japanese History under Andrew Goble at UO). The sword was a distant third.
I feel like that screen completely sums up Darth's mods...
Man, way to insult every other modder on TWC.
And Darth fanboys wonder why he has such a bad reputation.

No one has released a battle ai mod in a week for Rome 2.
^ Radious did already
Well I played all of the major mods for Empire and the standout was "The rights of Man". It made every other mod look childish. With that mod I made it to 1799 with only 100,000 gold at most, compared to the 3 or 5 million you have with Darthmod or APE. Given that Rome II is mostly Empire, that is the mod i will be waiting for.
Darthmods were great. especially for napoleon. Units behaved way more realistically, routed/rallied easier/more frequently, and muskets were more realistic. If his greatest achievement was simply making existing mods more user friendly, thats fine. Making mods more user friendly is probably one of the toughest things to do, at least it looks that way when I look at the work done by other modders.
P.S. case in point. I've been trying to unpack radious battle mod for the last 2 days and the file won't unpack, it keeps telling me I don't have thee right program, even after I downloaded trial version of winrar.

One more thread filled with Darth haters. * Sigh *
Is it a new snobbish attitude to say Darth's mods were crap every time his name is mentioned ?
I mean, he's gone for a few months already, time to move on guys.
To the OP: I am sure there will be a few excellent AI tweaks in the coming weeks or months.
