Default How to unlock a unit for a different faction?

Hi, can anybody provide me with the info how I can unlock a unit for a faction that hasn't the unit in it's roster? It doesn't have to be used by the AI, it only has to be recruitable for the player. For example: the wardogs from the Arverni for the Suebi or the Bactrian armored indian elefant for Parthia

I'm curious about this too. Would like to add some archers to the barbarian factions so I'm not getting barraged by stones as much. No one has figured this out?

If you got this done, I'd appreciate it if you could upload the files.

I've made a few edits since then besides the bows, but it's super easy to do. Under Units_to_groupings_military_permissions in the DB add a new line type Cel_Bowmen in the first box and in the second box type "gallic". That one is easy because they share the same buildings, if you want Iberians or Bretons to have archers you'll have to go to Buildings_units_allowed and find the skirmisher unit of one of those factions, copy all those entries and just replace the unit with Cel_Bowmen or whatever you'd like. You can find all the units under Main_Units and it's fairly easy to tell which is which as it goes by faction group.

What I'm wondering now is how you can add a unit to the pool that a faction chooses it's general from.

Okay I guess it's under Commander_unit_permissions if anyone was wondering.

I'm inept when it comes to that. I don't know where to find the files to edit. So yeh...

I too would be interested in this. I'd like to add the generic Greek archer unit to the Punic cultures.

    units_to_groupings_military_permissions_tables
This is where you define which unit belongs to which Army

    building_units_allowed_tables
    Which building produces which unit

There's only 2 parts of the building units allowed one that are important.

There is the Unit & there is the building that can produce it.

Copy your building line and add the desired unit.

Adding a Unit from the same Culture (Barbaric, Eastern...) is extremely easy because they use the same buildings. If you want to add more than just one or two units it gets more complicated because you have to edit garrison forces too, if you dont want yout cities to have like 20 garrison forces from the beginning.

Example how to add Wardogs to Suebi (or any other barbarian faction):

    1. Make a new movie type packfile with only units_to_exclusive_faction_permissions_table.

    2. Add a row.

    3. Under "key" Cel_Savage_Dogs

    4. Under "faction" rom_suebi
    (or rom_iceni for britain)

    5. Under "allowed" True

Thats it, now you can train Wardogs in the same building as the Averni (Slave Market) with the Suebi and only them.

okay I get that but the problem is the game considers punic buildings Hellenic, so for Carthaginian buildings they have the same "Hellenic building main aux #" tag as the buildings used by greeks. perhaps I need a non-Hellenic unit?

Any idea where it's set that romans can only recruit certain aux troops in certain provinces?

Sorry for the double post but I can't edit my above one for some reason.

Two reasons the romans can only recruit those units.

The Auxiliary units are limited to Rome
The building that produces the buildings is only part of the Rome building chain.
