    Default A Campaign Problem...

    OK, I started my Romano-Briton campaign on VH/H using Rebel Commander, and I expanded _very_ slowly until in about 415AD I wiped out the Celts and my economy was producing well. Now I trained the biggest army the Romano Britons have yet seen (see screenshot: It is my garisonned army.) And sailed to Saxon lands. I captured the capital, and wiped them out. This was to be my mainland beachead on the continent, but the Western Roman Empire weren't having any of it. As you can see they have attacked me with an elite force and more and more are coming. What should I DO?!

    Screenie:

    I fear they may head for fair Brittannia next...

    EDIT: The minimap

    Hi Alexanderthefantastic

    First off let me say I dont recognize the units or factions as I play on unmodified RTW without expansions/add ons. I do play on vh/vh difficulty though.

    My advice is based on the infatry having no special powers. Sally forth. As the Roman army rushes to reform to one corner or the other , you rush cavalry out and smash their archers. Then use your archers to shoot at the best targets...soldiers downhill and with backs to you. Tire the enemy by harassing them with cavalry. Avoid all out hand to hand combat until you can gang up many units against one of theirs. You can win with few casualties?.

    Then advance to capture their regions..building a fort at the end of your armies march. If the Romans attack your fort then sally forth and fight like above.

    Good luck.

    My units are (from left to right):
    General (duh), Foederati Infantry (medium spearmen), Sarmatian Auxilia (fine heavy cav), more foederati, archers (plain and simple), more sarmatians, and British Legionairres (goodbutnotasgoodasenemies heavy infantry.)

    Their units: Comitatenses (heavy 'legionary' infantry), plumbatarii (similar to Comitatenses but with better ranged attack), Auxilia Palatinae (extremely tough heavy spearmen), comitatenses, limitanei (spearmen. Kinda basic), comitatenses, archers, comitatenses.

    There. That should explain all the units. Thanks for the advice Severous, I am going to carry out the battle tomorrow.

    EDIT: Their Auxilia Palatinae can shield wall. That increses their defence but reduces speed.

    How can you play with the roman-british? I know how to play with 'non-playable' factions but playing with an emerging faction?! How did you do that?

    I used the Rebel Commander mod. It is somewhere in the .org under the mod downloads I think.

    I have victory! I used my Sarmatians as a 'sledgehammer' to smash their unprepared infantry.
    I must now prepare for more enemy invasions...

    Nice victory there. I love playing as Romano Brits. In my experience the best way to win is by trade. I have had over 5000 per turn in trade from London alone.

    If I were you I would risk losing denmark if I had to. I would concentrate on capturing and keeping the city just below london. This will increase your trade greatly, far more than the saxon lands. This enables a nice army to be supported. Just have one army there and make sure it is elite. You will have to fight WRE there a lot, but when they get a bit experience and then a bit more, you will have an unbeatable stack and you can start steam rolling them. The British infantry, when they are on silver chevrons are pretty formidable and will keep getting more experience.

    EDIT: Here is the trade I had in my game as Romano Brits. I was using a different mod to make them playable, but I doubt there are many differences.

    Go for it.

    This was a screenshot of a similar battle. My Gaul sally against besieging Greek forces. My cavalry must avoid the Greek phalanx. A good time killing skirmishers.

    re campaign
    if i were u
    allied with pink {burgendii i guess}
    keep the current victoreous army in saxon land
    assemble a cheap raiding party in homeland
    assemble a fleet
    now attck same time in two places
    ie with victorious army in the east and use the new raiding party to attack somewhere in spain or france
    remember thats raiding party so exterminate the population and fill ur treasury
    try to crush the western roman empire under its own weight
    ie use religion,spies,rebels {western rebels be allied with them }
    and spain is the safest place in case u want to flee ur home land with reach mines,mountains seperating it from europian mainland and all that
    good luck and kick ass of those romans

    I have crushed another army thanks to my hardworking Sarmatians. This army was largely the same as the other, but with more of everything, a general and 2 first cohorts. (Legio IV and V Italica)

    I have finally finished the campaign. I started to steam roll the WRE after a few more decisive victories in Germania. Carrying on the campaign could be a challenge because the WRE is still strong, with plenty of elite full stacks that have hunted me the whole campaign. I am now trying to convert the world to Christianity.
