Default Increasing Size of Units - without naval bug or horse bug

Someone requested that I start a thread to explain how to increase unit sizes so as to avoid the naval bug associated with the multiplier method. (This is the same as ive said in a number of other threads asking about editing unit sizes)

Im assuming that people reading this are familiar with pfm and the pack files...

    open main_units:
edit Num_Men field of unit to desired number.
change Max_Num_Men field to the same number as Num_Men

if unit you are adding is mounted (elephant/Horse/Camel/Chariot) NB: needs testing.
    open land_units:
edit Num_mounts to the same number as Num_Men in main_units.

    very cool magnar,

any chance you could post a link to a thread explaining how pfm and pack files work? I understand that it has something to do with PFM, but cant find where main_units is located.

    edit: nm, found it

I still have trouble with units disembarking ships. No matter what I put in the Max_Num_Men field, the amount of units on the ship does not change. All of the units on the ship disembark, but then they run to regroup with the rest of the unit that appear to be stuck underground on a random location on the battlefield.

I download the latest pfm file and was able to locate the data pack with main_units file. I open it, edit all of the infantry unit size, and can't save it. Is there a step by step I have to follow. Sorry for the trouble. I'm not the smartest dude on modding. I really just want to enjoy and change the infantry unit size that's all. I don't what to mess around with anything else. Wish my computer can handle your double unit size mod but it lag to much. I was thinking only about 200 men in each unit. NO CAVALRY change just infantry unit size. Again I apologize for the trouble and thank you for the mod but sadly my pc is garage.

I managed to make this modifications for infantry only so far and they work. The only problem so far appears if you set the unit soldier count to high. It seems that the transport ships have a limit of soldiers they can carry. I have tested triarii for example, set their unit size to 500 and maximum ship capacity to 500 and the game works fine until they have to disembark. I tested a custom battle port assault, had them disembark but they did not have all 500 men.Unit tooltip shows 500/500 but the unit itself counts somewhere around 200-240 men. They also have some crazy pathfinding issues.

I too am having this problem, sometimes my units that disembark the ship will run to a random location on the map as if to regroup. In addition, when I kill an enemy unit that has disembarked, the enemy unit flag will sometimes be visible sticking half out of the ground, where my units went to regroup, as if the rest of the unit is stuck underground.

Anyway to edit the starting army unit values as well? New recruits use the modified numbers but starting a campaign still uses default unit size.

I would like a file, with 120 cav and 240 phalax and 240 cohorts. This for all factions would great!!!

Select an edited unit that's aboard a ship, use the close camera on them (insert), and then cycle through the unit (page up, page down) until you come across rest of the unit that's not on the ship. They're probably all underground in the middle of the map. The pathing problems with this fix are because of the unit trying to regroup. I think the max number of troops on a transport is around 150-170, didn't really count them all.

Its a damn shame that it doesnt work. Phalanxes with 500 men look amazing and the battles last much longer.
You should see legionaries forming a testudo, thats one long testudo
