Personally I find factions that dont have allies and just steamroll all their towns at the same time.

    In very general terms:

    1) Pick an enemy, get as many units you can in one army within the first 2-3 turns (your basic spear+javelin units are fine) now attack the enemy - keep buying units until you reach a 20 stack.
    2) in turn 1. or 2. buy a 2. army and start raising more troops again your basic spear+javelin units are fine. Leave city building for later. Its all about getting as many cheap units in the field, as you can.
    3) in the first 4-6 turns: Capture your first province, just blitz the enemy cities with your main stack/army and follow with your 2. army. Taking a settlement pr turn isnt hard, dont be afraid of the public unrest.
    4) When you get the uprising, just wait a turn and then crush it - dont worry the rebel stack it will spawn 90% of the time right next to your main stack. If it isnt spawning right next to your main stack, make sure your 2. army takes care of it.
    5) With your first whole province capture, its time to build some happiness/culture buildings to subdue the unrest.
    6) Rinse and repeat.

Remember dont be afraid of public unrest/uprisnings, just have an army with 10-12 units stay behind and take care of any rebel army. I routinely get 3-4 uprisnings when i capture a new province, just make sure you got an army to take care of it, so your 20 stacks can just destory the enemy forces and take their cities.

Ohh and focus on getting as many units as you can early game.
