Default This is Why RTWII Diplomacy Fails

Playing legendary campaign as Macedon. Suddenly civil war breaks out around Pella, and I begin losing provinces on a massive scale.

Cue my allies, the Ardaei (or whatever); a powerful Illyrian tribe to the north, who share amazing relations with me. They immediately goto war and help liberate Apollonia and are now besieging Pella, while my main thrust is directed against Athens and Sparta.

But oh; they appear to have conquered the settlements themselves! I have no way in which I can get them back, so now I've had to become deceitful and untrustworthy by breaking my alliance with them, in order to retake my provinces (via military conquest).

So aye CA, what's your excuse for this one? Why did you remove "demand/exchange regions" again? (Inb4 stupid AI can't handle it)

It's superior then, is it? Well, since before Shogun II I was able to take and demand provinces fairly after an ally conquered them, usually rewarding them with money. Yet in this I just can't, so get off your damn high horse.

    Probably the stupid AI.

Anybody remember the AI in Empire with its wonderful requests?

"Hey, would you like to trade your wealthy, valuable, strategically located province in Europe for some useless island in the Caribbean? No? Oh...well, OK. I'll come back next turn and ask again "

rome 2 changed the mechanics of alot of things, so what i see is, if you think like previous games you'll think the diplomacy is broken. if you use your brain and put 1+1 and learn the new mechanics and make sense of them, you'll see everything makes sense. but thats one of the problems with this game, game mechanics are okay but CA made terrible job at explaining and making clear how they work and why. leaving many players thinking that things are broken when they're not. they're just there and instead of proving answers the player must dig deeper to understand them.
Common sense removed due being Disruptive.

Is rather have AI make stupid requests (which they still do) and be able to trade territories. Just another feature that CA left out.

if you're desperate to exchange regions, do so via the save file. take a large amount of money from yourself, give it to another faction, and then give yourself ownership of that region! hey presto.

But did you ever have any real success in demanding regions? The only time I can really remember is peace negotiations, and only then if they were really losing.

After finishing my Empire, my number one occupation used to be conquering provinces and giving them to my vassals to create powerful buffer states and reshaping the political landscape. Also, the option to aquire a province peacefully is needed on several occasions, examples mentioned by other posters, and even making huge trade-offs could be worth it if it allowed you to keep an ally, for example. I really miss this feature.
