Default Has anyone seen an AI faction actually conquer other territories?

I'm some 40 or 50 turns in, taken three full provinces and a number of outlying regions, and so far as I can tell every single AI faction is still stuck in the same spot they were at Turn Zero.

I know the AI is pointless incompetent at interacting with the player, but is it also equally incompetent against other AI? What the hell has CA been doing over the past few years of development?

They expand a lot, but also collapse a lot. I've seen that German faction reach all the way down to Italy, then imploding a little bit later.

On my game I have two scouts outside arminium and velathri, who are currently enjoying sight of 3 barbarian nations sluging it out for pativium, the mediolanium city from rome 1 (forgot it's rome 2 name) and the one to the left of mediolanium.

It's quite a spectacle, the amount of times those city's have changed hands is quite astonishing.

That is my experience... My AI allies and client states (as Carthage) grow only to fall prey to rebels and other factions. Meanwhile, the Arverni, Macedon, Epirus, Egypt and Parthia have been destroyed, and Rome has lost Rome to the Ligurs and their territory been divided.

I found that the minor factions specially expand a lot and destroy major factions. By turn 40 Carthage, Arverni, Iceni, Macedon, Egypt, Seleucids were all destroyed by minor factions I had no idea who they were and felt 0 attachment. They don't garrison their towns or hold any kid of army nearby, you take the city and instead of taking it back they always take their army and go one of your undefended territories and take it. Its such bad programming makes the game a hassle to play.

Factions are getting destroyed in my Macedon campaign by other AI factions. Quite often they will re-emerge and then get wiped out again - this happens quite a bit.

In the early part of my Macedonian campaign the faction that controls Odessos landed a full stack near Sparta (which seemed to be busy going for Brindisium maybe) and take Sparta out. The stack then moved onto Athens to lay siege to that. Sparta went to relieve the seige of Athens (they were allies at the time) which meant that I took Sparta.

I saw someone else mention this elsewhere but it seems the AI may be given some bonuses at the start and either lose them or expand too far and find themselves with unrest - this can result in loss of settlements (which can make easy pickings for others).

It's always the same, the AI empires expand to a point where they border with to many nations to cover all of them with their armys and then get overwhelmed by the one they didn't cover.

The AI is very dynamic against each other.

I am playing as parthia and the AI is very unaggresive. I seen them have 3 armies stand around their capital and not attack tell i sent out a scout to see other lands. I hade a war with baktria and the two cities above me and thats it. Parthava is the only one to move out and attack, But since i took over baktria before they could They settled down and didnt take anything. The AI havn't been to aggresive yet.

Carthage has kicked the bucket in the first 50 turns in 3 games in a row, so they get conquered by some desert tribes and Syracuse in one game. In my current Spartan game Syracuse has expanded and holds 5 territories currently

When I invaded Asia Minor, Pergamon expanded eastward as fast as I could eat up their lands. Now, I'm fighting some minor faction near armenia that expanded south, presenting a big wall of regions between me and parthia.

The Germanic confederation expanded all the way to the Alps and got their back-sides kicked by me and then I noticed that their empire was crumbling because of a food shortage. I like how there are a lot of factors playing into this. AI will have a hard time maintaining a large empire. However, the enemy never learns from defeats.
