Still haven't found any way to get the province to be recognized as yours for edicts and objectives purposes. I really think it probably has to do with that system.byte entry. Setting two different entries to both point to one faction doesn't seem to work for ownership but I bet if you could edit it down to one entry with a system.byte 4 (or however many settlements that province has) would work. I've been through startpos with a fine toothed comb several times and I can't find anything else that looks like it might control so. So I think it's either that system.byte entry or it's something outside of startpos entirely.

Couldn't you just change the faction you control in a savegame over and over? Use their armies to conquer which parts you want them in control of by constantly resetting move points so you can say conquer all of Spain with Carthage in 1 turn for your example. Then delete all history/unwanted experience/reset units. You'd have to create like 20 savefiles with each playable faction and bundle them together to make a shareable "mod" though rather than just one shareable savegame.

I tried a lot of things to change the whole carthagian mess, but carthage keeps building in the now nova carthagian qart hadasht .
This is one of the most important things for modding, without the ability to change ownership of regions there cant be any new scenarios.
So if anyone knows more please tell.

What fires the 'faction destroyed event'?
Perhaps you could delete the factions starting army and trigger it to occur on the 1st turn.

Having thru all of the above frustrations I handed carthage all of the Libya regions in Africa in the following way:1/ change Libya home region to 0 which should cause them to have attrition 2/remove client status 3/declare war and attack. the Africa region is very profitable. That is the only way that I could find to accomplish that. Takes 4-5 turns. On could do this on any faction.

I have successfully given Sparta to Athens.

I can construct buildings & units, ever after Sparta's armies die.

I'll post my startpos.esf tonight when I get home. There is about 4-5 entries you need to change.

    The startpos is there.

There was quite a few entries to change.

I changed all the 9s to 7s wherever there was a faction reference & changed rom_sparta to rom_athens.

Seems to be working fine, now if only I can figure out these armies!!

    This is not a solution.
AI still has control of provinces.

And trk: war between libya and carthage might help, I modded it in.
But nova carthage still troubles me as it just sits there waiting for african and hispanic tribes to take over

if you set the region(s) of any group to something other their faction they experience attrition. of course one has to reset it when you have an army to be able to control it for edicts. That way you let the game structure control. wish I could figure out a better way. alternatively reduce their money so that they are not a threat and when ready attack. That is less of a cheat I guess. as it stands one has to attack regions that one does not own. and messing with faction array is no solution either. system byte appears to be the only way.

If you want to know if it works, try to order an eddict or build a navy in that region (cant in sparta).
If you get buildings which you didnt order, or just lose some it's the AI.

I highly doubt that because I gave north african nova carthago to carthage and changed the ownership thingie above the byte, so it said carthage controlls 2 provinces. still it didnt work.
There must be more than just the system.byte

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! I think I found out what messes up the ownership: GARISSONS they are listed under armies of the faction (COMPRESSED_DATA>CAMPAIGN_MODEL>WORLD>FACTION_ARRAY>FACTION_ARRAY - #>FACTION>ARMY_ARRAY)

Interesting... Are you deleting ARMY_ARRAY entries or modifying the MILITARY_FORCE entries?

    So far neither.
Removing armies result in crashes and I haven't tried moving them.
I'm very certain they are the problem though as it's the only thing left as these things don't make it work: region ownership, province ownership, faction starting provinces and even system.byte.

Just so you know, deleting armies has never worked in any of the Warscape games, it always resulted in a crash. There is far too much data intertwined in the characters and the CAI.

I suggest you change the ownership of the army instead which was previously possible.

(I'm no mastermodder, so sorry if it sounds stupid) But isn't the ownership of armies determined by the faction map they are in?
