Default Stainless Steel SS6.3>SS6.4, please help!

    Hi,

I've bought Medieval Total War 2 collection (includes kingdoms) largely so i can try what looks to be an excellent mod. M2TW was my favourite TW game, but I missed the mods, and it looks like the additions in this mod improve the quality of the game enormously.

Unfortunately, im having all sorts of issues trying to get it installed and working. I downloaded the original game, ran it, then kingdoms, and ran it, then got the 5 bin files and launcher and ran the launcher directing it to install into the mods folder of M2TW in the steamapps directory as instructed. Then did the same with 6.4 setup. It seemed to work and asked me to choose various options. At the end it asked if i wanted to run the game, i did, and it crashed. I found someone where it mentioned you have to run the game from in steam by choosing to play kingdoms. Stainless Steel was there to choose but listed twice. I tried them both and it both cases it seemed to start to load as in the screen went black but the logo never arrived and it simply came back to desktop without any sort of error or explanation. I tried a few different ways to launch it and nothing worked.

"i've done something wrong somewhere" I thought. I'll uninstall the mod and try again. I uninstall it using the uninstaller provided, so i think, but in the list of mods when i click to play both are still there its still there. So I delete local content from M2TW and Kingdoms and reinstall M2tW without kingdoms. Click play and its still there, with the other four CA mods "americas etc" even though kingdoms isn't installed. Facepalm.

So it goes on like this, I eventually manually delete all the local content for both games, also ask steam to remove local content, search and remove anything I can find to do with stainless steel or SS6.3, uninstalled steam as i thought maybe there was something hiding in there, and used cc cleaner to clean the registry (if that even works). Surely this time. I reinstall steam, i download M2TW (only, not kingdoms). I click to play, again i have the choice of SS6.3 or any of the four CA mods even though M2TW doesn't even have a mod folder in its directory yet. Where is it picking this up from? My head explodes.

Anyone any idea how I go about removing the mod(s) so I can start from scratch installing SS. I downloaded SS in 5 bin files but i saw after it is recommended you get it in less files from a torrent. I'll try that if i can get back to where i started.

Thanks in advance for any help. Going mad trying to figure it out. It just won't forget i ever installed the mod or ran kingdoms!

Man, you should have aksed earlier, I would of been too frustrated to make it work at this point.

SS still shows up probably because there are a few small files laying around or something is still stuck in the registry. You shouldnt worry about it though. You have to download 6.3 first(if you already have the bin files DL'd just use those), I highly recommend you use a torrent for this, its faster and has less files too I think. Then pick up the 6.4 patch which is relatively small. Install 6.3, then update to 6.4. I dont know about running from steam, but there should be at least one guide about it in the guides section. Also, dont forget to check the stickies, both in the guide and the main SS section.

You have to run the mods .exe as an admin, I think that is the problem you have.

Sorry to hear about all that trouble... reminds me of back when I installed SS 6.4. Can't help here though since I still use XP and no steam. But know this, fellow M2 playa: It is worth the trouble and much more, this mod is fantastic! Let us know what you think when you got it running. @Baltic Warrior - will rep you if you help him get there...

Make sure that Mtw2 and Steam are in the same drive and that it is your main drive

Are you installing by renaming one of your Kingdoms campaigns to sufpdjf or whatever and then renaming your SS install to Americas/Crusades/whatever campaign you renamed? Cause that's what you have to do with steam.

It is slow because of the influx of people that are coming to the rome 2 section and your posts get denied because you're subject of the spam filter. Once you get over 4 posts you can post whatever you like. If you want to get those 4 posts, you can go here and say hi and after that post a load of messages here.
