    Blender (the freeware open-source 3d modeller)
    In the past i also used Bryce 6/7 (horrible as a modeller, good for lighting effects) and 3dsmax (it has other issues).
    Blender by now is an awesome program and it will only improve more

    Finally things look a bit more decent (this render is not final, obviously).

    Reworking the style (likely will be quite individual for different cultures). The Greek set is based on reconstructions of Miletos, Olympia and Corinth:
