    Default Egypt, need explanation

    Ok, I can understand the logic behind the Greek units in Egypt, it pains me that there are more Greek than Egyptian units in Egypt but that is what mods are for.

    But what the are Celtic units doing in Egypt?! Is there any historical evidence on this or did CA just say what the hell lets put some Celts in the desert!?

    So have you read about the time period beforehand or are you just here to be angry?

    But Galatia was in freaking Turkey... Still doesn't explain them being in Egypt. By that logic Rome should have Spartan troops, Sparta is closer to Rome than Galatia is to Egypt. And Athens should have some Celts, Galatia is Closer to Athens than it is to ing Egypt.

    They were hired in large numbers by the Ptolemaics, and given a kleros or a fief/plot of land in exchange for military service.

    Yeah but what I wanted to point out is that that plot of land is in Turkey, a loooong way away from Egypt. And maybe it is just my opinion but Egypt should have a more "egyptian" feel to it, we already have Macedonia and soon will have Seleucids but Egypt doesn't have to revolve around Alexander, let it have a few greek units but let the core be Egyptian not Greek.

    Oh sweet ing Jesus. Okay look, Ptolemy was a Greek general under Alexander. His troops were raised by Philip II and used by Alexander to conquer Persia. After Alexander's death they sided with their general Ptolemy, now governor of Egypt, in the wars that were to break out between the underlings of Alexander. The kingdom he built was ripped apart in an instant. The Egypt you see in the game is a splinter state of the old Macedon. Yes, it very much does revolve around Alexander. The Galatians came from Galatia. They were not given land there. The land was obviously in Egypt. As to why they are in the game in service of the Egyptians? Because the Ptolemies used Galatian troops. Might as well be complaining about Rome's African troops.

    Egyptians weren't even allowed into the military until much later into the kingdom's history. Which is why we have them in game at all.

    Besides, at times Ptolemaic empire held lands in Asia Minor and Cyprus, so they weren't that far.

    Galatians were used as mercenaries by many Diadochi states.

    @Master Necromancer

    Border Patrol has pretty much summed it up very well, i'm assuming you don't actually know the history of the time period too well my friend, at least not in any academic sense. The Galations were famous mercenaries throughout the successor states, and in layman's terms, the Ptolemies made extensive use of many of them for their field armies, in return for service they would be granted land IN EGYPT...

    Now as to your complaint about the lack of Egyptian troops...that's just how it was, Again as has been pointed out, the Hellenes were after Alexanders conquest the true upper and middle class of Egypt, and may Egyptians were 'hellenised' copying their ways and styles. The military was for a long time during the reign of Ptolemy made up of almost solely greeks and foreign mercenaries as Egyptian troops were considered poor quality and too unreliable, this only really changed with Cleopatra i believe, who was the first Pharaoh to make extensive political points about her Egyptian roots instead of the Greek side.

    Also any Egyptian troops who did serve would use the modern style and fighting techniques of the time, thus they'd pretty much march, look and fight in an imitation of their Greek contemporaries. That means no stupid Rome I style units anymore! As they quite literally were from another era, and ancient Egypt has no historic place in Ptolemaic Egypt.

    Also...what the hell does close-ness have to do with anything!? You are aware for instance that the Carthaginians were trading with Britain for tin and copper and had sailed as far north as Iceland? and South to the Cape of Africa right? Also just look at the silk road later on! Its not a time as many think of ignorant village life, people traveled. The Greek colonization of various parts of the Black sea and Western med are surely enough to show that?

    Hope this helps clear things up my friend.
