Default What exactly is happening here? R2TW is crazy....

    Hi everyone,

I haven't posted here in eons! lol

Anyway, I have the difficulty on NORMAL as the Romans & I'm getting hit with attrition, Unstable Magna Grecia, Difficult melee battles, and
    failed naval battles.

Does this seem right to anyone?

Cause I'm confused about now.......Wow.....Such a different experience since the new patch!

I wonder what additions were done to R2TW insofar as coding was concerned....My game is nuts.

    Hy Baldrick,

Thanks but......Why is the game so difficult?

Rome is supposed to be an "easy" faction?

I think gameplay balanced is whacked.

Easy? Good God, 3 wars at turn 3? A war on 3 soon to be 4 fronts. No one trading with you? Low public order? No one wants to ally with you? Easy, no.

There was one gameplay adjustment. They normalized army/navy relative strength I think.

    Hi Baldrick,

    WHY YES!

Why am I getting stomped on as Rome? It's supposed to be an "easy" faction....My game isn't "easy":

I bombed against the Dalmatian fleet.........Lost against the Etruscan army at Venetri (or whatever it's called)
Magna Graecia is in unrest (i.e. Red and I'm unable to change the situation)
Attrition IN Latium is killing me off.....In LATIUM, my home turf man.

    What the heck?

Apat from the battles, the reason you might be experiencing unrest is shown on the left when you click on the province. Remember, if you control one province from a total of fur in a region ad the other three are owned by a different cultural faction then their culture will rise faster tan yours in the region, affecting and contributing to discontent in YOUR region! For example, if you are Carthage and you control Lilybeum (or however its spelled) in Sicily but Rome controls the other three provinces in the region of Magna Greacia (Syracuse, and the two southern Italy provices) their culture (Latin culture) will rise in the region faster than yours cause its three vs 1, especially if they have buildings which increae culture in the region (temples). The only way you can counter this is by either:
    1. Conquering some of those provinces and building cultural buildings
    2. Building high tier cultural buildings in Lilybeum and hope Rome doesn't
    3. Or use a champion to increase happiness in the province, get public order attributes for your governor, etc or get a higher military garrison to keep public order.

Remember, this not only goes for culture but slaves as well. If Rome loves to enslave enemies it defeats in battle then the whole region will increase in the number of slaves (including your province) even if you never enslave. Slaves contribute to negative public order though they increase income somewhat. This may result i slave uprising.
"we're way way pre-alpha and what that means is there is loads of features not just in terms of the graphics but also in terms of the combat and animations that actually aren't in the game yet.So the final game is actually gonna look way way better than this!” - James Russell, CA
Just like the elephant animation, this Carthage scenario is actually in the game, it just has a small percantage factor for showing up, that's all...

Most of those issues sound more like you making a mistake or two. Rome is an "easy" faction, but you still have to be able to win battles and the like.
Losing your fleet isn't that unlikely, because Rome has a terrible navy - it helps balance out the fact it's infantry can easily handle 3 or 4 other early, maybe mid-game, infantry on their own.
If you are suffering attrition in your own territory, that you control, I suspect your food supply is negative, and your soldiers are starving to death. Build more farms, or fishing at ports.

it seems to be a very complicated situation for a simple rome campaign well for unrest i lower my taxes at the beginning of the campaign and i keep a monk (or whatever they are called) in my army to reduce foreign cultures.

are you under siege in some way because i believe that can cause attrition or it could be plague.

i don't know the specifics about your military and the rest of your campaign so i can't really help you in those aspects sorry

Like Shogun 2, you really have to get ahead of the food situation or it bites you in the butt.

    Build aquaducts asap.

    Build temples in your settelments.

Send Patricians and give them Skills that boost their Cultural Conversion.

I'm having no difficulties whatsoever w the laughable ai. Its worse than Rome 1 seriously. What really has me pissed is how terrible the best aspect of this series used to be, the manual battles. They're absolutely attrocious. With nothing but massed melee cluster f***s. This game sucks.

I mean, they were going for realism. Most battles from the roman time period were as you said, massed melee charges devolving into mass melee fights. Surges by either side would only last a couple minutes at most. I think that was what CA was going for.

It's not worse than the Rome 1 battlefield AI. In unmodded Rome 1 the AI would almost always charge its general to his death in the middle of your army before any of his infantry had caught up if you had even a single unit of skirmishers in your army.

what is the point of posting "this game sucks" on a completely freaking random topic that has nothing to do with it.

ok for 1 i will count out the fact that you are trying to force your opinion on the rest of us but there is nothing good coming from the discussion if you just go to random threads saying "this game sucks"

Not sure what you doing there, OP. I tried Rome for a few turns yesterday and it was easy-peasy...
