    Default Insanity and inbreeding!

I haven't really delved too deeply into other factions as yet, but in the campaign, it seems to be absurdly common that my Roman family members are either 'strange' or 'unhinged,' and apparently have a tendency to marry their sisters (or they would, if they ever got married.)

Anybody else experiencing this? According to the official forums, it's particularly common with the Julia, but still happens quite often with the two other families.

While I appreciate that Rome was famous for its crazy emperors, I don't think that all of them believed they were beverage containers.

When I saw the title I thought you were playing as the Ptolemies. In any case, I did get one strange family member, but don't think I've seen any other odd or negative traits like that. In fact, I think he only went mad because I made him sit in fortified stance in the same place out in the wilderness for years and years and years. My own fault he's a loony I should guess.

I have the same problem, with almost all families on every campaign I started ^^ weird enough and pretty annoying. Don't know if this is wanted, or just a bug due to misconfigured trait triggers ( if such exist in rome 2 and they are not "random"

When I complained about the same thing regarding family members getting all sorts of stupid traits in Medieval 2, people countered that this added a sense of roleplaying fun and that I was simply out to make perfect generals. Hah, sucks when the shoe is on the other foot now, isn't it?

I get a lot of the "Dangerous" traits, but I think it's because traits kind of work like back in Medieval 2. Having your Generals sit around for turns on end without moving, or doing anything, makes them more likely to accumulate bad traits. And of course, some buildings will influence this.

Oh wow, I was just being facetious in my post but apparently having a general camp in the same place in the wilderness for 11 years really does make it likely for him to get a bad trait like going mad? The more you know.

I'm merely guessing here of course. But thinking on it, I have a tendency to grab some early land then sit on it for years... and then the "Dangerous" traits start happening. When I mentioned them to a friend, he theorizes it's probably due to drinking from lead-lined pipes or some such. Not sure if that's actually accurate but... I guess there might be some merit to it.

I'm really just basing this on what I remember of Rome and Medieval 2, typically Generals who spend too much time not out and about, will pick up bad traits. The more active your generals are the better - of course, a problem there is probably you can't sustain constant battles to keep them busy but... I'm not sure if simply having them use up some action points per turn will help reduce the odds of bad traits coming up. Might be worth testing...

    But I like perfect generals.

My favourite trait, when coupled with the 3 units per turn and your general can't move his army when he's recruiting limitations, is the procrastination trait. Really? He's out here training troops but is somehow actually sitting around doing nothing?

I suspect this trait is a result of the general ending the turn with his action points at full. I believe you can still recruit with a general, so long as they have some actions points left. You can just move him around a bit, then recruit. I'm again, merely guessing based on Medieval 2 experiences - almost all bad traits are the result of a general not having moved at all, by the end of a turn. (Or well, the chance to get one)

Of course, sometimes, it's just sheer luck and some generals will get bad traits anyway. Just how it is.
