    Although I personally don't mind the change, but some people are acting like capture the flag in the field is the end of the world as we know it. Of course everyone remembers that these occur only when one army is in forced march...but anyway. I'm not a modder, but I would think it should be relatively easy to modify out open field capture points. If we want a mod to remove, can't we just go into the game files and change the capture point timer to 999 minutes? Voila, problem somewhat solved, although the AI will still probably try to take the point. Still, it now goes back to being which army can route the other.

    Trouble is, that'll still have the AI parking their arse on that point whether that's conducive to them winning the battle or not.

    And yeah, 'capture the flag' in open battlefields is the end of the world as we know it, as far as tactics and strategy in TW games goes! See those awards on the front of the case? 'Best Strategy Game'. That's 'strategy' game.

    Where's the 'strategy', CA??

    Hi
    So the only reason that a capture point is in a open field battle that is not a region capital is because the army being attacked/attacker is in the forced march stance? i was wondering why this was occurring, just though is was random bug. The game is actually really growing on me - if they just fix the lag and all other buggy shiyt and the mod people fix a few gameplay things it could be a really good game!!

    Ps i do hate the capture points though.. ..

    I had a capture point battle, when i sallied from being beseiged.it put me on a 45deg slope, with the capture point i have to defend uphill from me, and downhill from the attacking army.:/needless to say, i didn't win that one.i like the idea, especially if it helps the AI attack behaviours, but i don't like that it's a magic button, with a super short timer, and no on screen notifications of imminent capture... the advisor let me know with 5 seconds left.if they're going to have all these whiz bang graphics and arrows, use it to let me know things that are super important to winning.not just that i'm now in phalanx.

    SonofCrusader - this is true. Still, probably won't be tremendously different than standard AI nonsense.

    We'd all like better AI.

    Just lost the battle because I was in defensive stance and there was a capture point, who knew the defensive stance makes it harder to defend an area -.- Although I really like the deployable stuff that was done well the capture point made me rage quit the campaign when in the middle of an epic battle I see the "You lost" screen.

    STILL haven't played yet, but do capture points only appear in battles involving forced march?

    CA are insane to implement this. Like said before, Flags completely destroy any semblance of tactics in battles, especially for the AI. Any TW basic AI of previous is better than this, even Empire. think about it; with the flags you now have `Go get flag. go camp on flag!` There is no point in features, planning or anything at all. It`s a HUGE step back from previous TWs.

    It`s a travesty. Forced marching is no excuses, you can still use tactics in such a situation after that, look to reality and here, is where adhering to reality would`ve actually allowed MORE FREEDOM. I don`t even like Flags in sieges since they first appeared but tolerated that since there is a little logic and still allows for tactics for the AI.

    No amount of excuses apart from the `We did it quick so we could release it and make loads a money, suckers! ` will excuse it.

    It`s a pity they can`t be hauled up in front of some games ombudsman then taken to court so they actually have to face the music and answer to why they did this.

    The next person who says "they only appear in force marches" I swear gets a throat-punch.

    They happen in sieges, coastal battles (where land and sea units could be fielded), and I have personally witnessed me being stuck with a flag when the enemy of a siege sallied out to attack me ... and suddenly I'm defending a flag vs. being on surrounding hills.

    I've heard all sorts of reasons about "supply trains" and such and the only reasons that make sense are these:
    1 - for settlements, to denote that the settlement has been captured.
    2 - to stop someone camping ships offshore and watching a land-based opponent's clock tick away

    In either instance the implementation is iffy at best and somewhat lazy and unimaginative.

    Want to denote the capture of a town? designate key buildings to be captured.
    Want to represent a supply train? Give us a supply train unit - little carts and oxen, slow moving and needing to be protected.
    Want to stop naval units camping offshore for the duration of a battle? Allow the defending player an option for where to place the flag or have it automatically be his general unit.

    Somebody employ this guy! Good ideas which I think most logical people with a little thought could come up with, unlike CA`s coders!

    Incidentally, and strangely, Empire TW did allow the capture of buildings in sieges.

    Flags seem more and more like a lazy rush copout for the AI and possibly MP.
