    Man, I LOVE competition!!
It makes us fight to achieve the prize, thus requiring more effort, which in turn results in a better game (this case)

    Eehmm no.
None of the other games are anything like TW and never will be.
It won't improve anything nor should it.

A product does not need to be directly challenged for it to have competition.

It merely needs similar products that people would rather buy instead of it.

Thus all games are in competition with eachother, for the TW games to continue they need to keep implementing new tech and fresh ideas to make people want to buy TW games over other games.

And that drive to introduce more stuff than their competitors bennefits the end users.

    ie. Us gamers.

    so im all for competition.

Well of course competition is good, it drives them to improve themselfs however none of those games are really competition to TW.
Sure they are all strategy games but that's where it ends.
The civ series and TW series has never been competitors with each other because Civ and TW are really 2 different types of games.
If Civ 4 wins then CA won't turn TW into Civ 4 and the same with Civ 4.
TW really has very little competition and the ones that are out weren't very good either.
TW is in a league of it's own, the same as Civ is.

By your logic TW games would sell the same number of copies regardless of the actual quality of the product.

TW has direct competitiom, the entire rts genre.

everytime an rts game comes out with flashy new features people are obviously going to go check it out, that reduces the potential customers for the other games that are left, and if those other games dont copy that feature or come up with their own feature thats better... people wont buy them.

it would be like Valve making hl2 and just not bothering to add new content... becuase realy... what other fps game handles the genre the way gordon freeman does?

How can a game not even out yet be nominated?

A game is eligible for nomination if "so long as it has been, or will be released during the calendar year January 1 - December 31 2006. This means that both completed/published games and currently uncompleted games are eligible to be entered. " It is a bit silly though.

Frankly though, I think Civ4 has a definite win. The jury will only get to play an unfinished version of MIITW, whilst Civ4 can offer a fully patched game.

Keep in mind there are multiple customer groups. Most of this site respresents the more involved, 'hardcore' fans who really play for the uniqueness, but there are also groups of people who play it because it's just a pretty RTS with some blood and in Medieval ages, and there might be groups who buy it mainly for historical battle purposes...

I personally feel TW is really different from a lot of games and is its own special niche, but I can't speak for all the people who buy the games.

Age of Kings is a legend at online RTS..... but is old.

    MTW2 will smash.

i doubt it. Civ 4 brings nothing new to the table. it's all the same nonsense of sitting in front of the comp playing endless turn after turn.

    Unlike MTW2?

    Or indeed RTW?

    that's different.

Civ 4 offers nothing except that. you build settlements to build more units to fight. It's wildly simple, but you play it for hours.

the TW series plays via turns as well, but there is strategy involved, plus it's more complex. (gameplaywise)

Lmao. Apparently Rise and Fall won.

Sorry Brits, but that competition is a joke. RaF is a pretty crappy game. Graphics are weak, hero mode is nothing but hack and slash over and over. Units mash into eachother. No way it should beat out M2TW and CIV 4.

Perhaps I'm missing details, but I do believe I see the category "Strategy" above M2's list, yet I se a tactical shooter and a football sim thrown in there? Where the hell is CoH?
