Default Total War Rome II: Another Empire Total War

    Good job, Creative Assembly.

You took all the issues you had with Empire and Shogun II, and DIDNT fix them.

The battle tempo is way too fast, the BAI is WAY too aggressive, and beats the players simply because the simultaneous are typically too much for the average player to go against, meaning all the battles come down to a single charge. Which is boring, and far too fast. You didnt have that issue in Rome 1. You didnt have that issue in Napoleon.

The CAI is just dumb. "Hey, lets have an alliance. But ill need %50 of your gold."
They're also extremely aggressive, like in Shogun II. They throw themselves into battles they CANT win. Macedon threw 500 men against 3000 spartans.

And the waiting on turns just takes way too long, like on Empire.
Find a way to lessen our wait time. Dont show the moves of factions we havent met, maybe.

You guys did a fantastic job, making this game look just slightly better than Shogun II, as well.

And good job on getting Darth to retire, he might've been the only modder that could clean up this mess.

But Empire has a 90 metacritic and won bafta's. You are saying it's really, really good?

Reviews and awards are pointless. Why listen to other's opinions when you can just make your own?

Why make another raging thread instead of commenting on others?

Nah, however poor Empire's launch was, it had a semblance of historicity and authenticity to its battle gameplay. Rome 2 does not. Rome 2 is not only a mess of a creation, but the actual battle experience has descended into a chaotic mess too.

Far worse than Empire. While Empire introduced new features such as naval battles, interesting tech tree, Rome 2 just a total downgrade of everything. Fully deserved 4.7 metascore.

Absolutely ridiculous that it's a 4.7 user rating. Even going in as a TW war fan since Shogun I, this is a solid 7.5 as an entry into the series. As a game itself the reviewers Metascore is on point at 8.4. It's a letdown for but still a solid game for TW fans, it's a pretty good game if it hadn't had a prior history and expectations to fulfill from previous iterations.

Hey, at least Empire had some good game design. The UI was appropriate for its era and it was easy to use (No use of a "wiki" meant that you could find info fast, since you only had to click once to reveal it). Characters had traits and proper portraits so that you could imagine what the person was like. The land battles were fun to watch as the smoke gathered from all of the muskets, artillery constantly bombarding the battlefield. The total war feeling was there, the only negative parts about Empire was the AI, lack of settlements and the lack of units (The issue with the units was easily fixed by mods).

Empire is considered a fiasco, but at least I can call it a total war game because it had most of the things in the bag. Rome 2's game design is so flawed that it's not even funny, they ripped out features and simplified the game to the point where it's no longer a total war game. The UI is cryptic and confusing, it takes way too many clicks to find information and when you find the information you'll find that it lacks details compared to previous titles. The building icons are small and symbolic, I don't really care about the buildings and the building tree is hidden somewhere in the awful wiki.

TLDR: Rome 2 is in many ways worse than Empire.
