Default No Reason to build a Navy

There is basically no need in this game to build a Navy. You just use transport ships and if you have 20 units in a stack you get 20 ships. Why should i spend money on inferior ships when i cant even stop a full stack of a transported army on the Sea. There should be a penalty for armies on Sea fighting proper Navy crews. Once they on land i would understand that they back to normal strenghts but on Sea a transport ship should never be able to win against a proper Navy ship.

Ships in the actual navy is stronger than the ones used by the troops.

Navies should also have dedicated marine units and not just land units that have been placed on them.

I also think if your army goes to water they should have to muster for one turn to represent building the ships. No muster if you have a fleet escorting you off land or you sail from a port you own.

I like that agents can move across water without having to build ships, but armies is a bit much. Crossing over the sea should be difficult. It is one of the reasons that Hannibal crossed the alps, and it prevented Julius Caesar conquering Britain. Honestly I would prefer it if you had to build expensive transport ships, only for there to be a 25% chance that half of them get lost/ destroyed along the way.

In my opinion it should cost resources to build these transport ships. You will think twice if you want to ship your whole army or not. Proper Navies should however have an advantage over transport ships on Sea. This is a very flawed system , even so i like the amphibious landings you are able to do.

The romans seem to have infantry from ships called medium infantry while their land counterparts are heavy. Maybe those are your marines?

Yes, it's hilariously bad. In this game Hannibal can just jump in a sea-tax with his 20 unit stack of hoplites and elephants and spearhead directly to Rome, he doesn't need to deliberate about the treacherous crossing of the Alps or anything really.

I do find them useful for helping my land army besiege cities, and not much else. To be fair, I never really used navies much anyway.

LOL ...guess you have never get rammed when your good old land units is trying to board another ship...

If the hulk is too weak...you will lose the whole unit before 100% boarding..

and even if men are on the enemy ship... they will still jump into water =.=
Never argue with an idiot, cuz they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience
